Experience the thrill of boarding down the slope of Cerro Negro Volcano, one of Central America's most active volcanoes.
The hike up the volcano is about one hour. We explore the main crater and walk the rim up to the highest point. The panoramic views of the pacific are breathtaking, you can see the colonial city of Leon, pacific ocean and volcanic chain. After the instructions and putting on the safety equipment we slide down the volcano. The speed is controlled by using your feet as breaks. The faster you go, the more extremer the activity. If you do not want to do the volcano boarding you may also walk down the volcano.

Cerro Negro Volcano 2024
The Cerro Negro is a young and unique volcano. It provides a stunning natural setting, the opportunity to hike a active volcano, see its crater and board down. The steep slopes of this black volcano lack any kind of vegetation. An eruption in 1999 has left a wide border of black, volcanic material around Cerro Negro and there are two smaller craters right next to the volcano which were recently formed. The crater – often emitting smoke and gas – can be observed from above, and the crater rim leads to the other side where the imposing volcanic chain can be seen with several volcanoes (including the Telica and San Cristóbal) lined up one after another. The volcano’s steep slopes provide a great surface for Volcano Boarding. This thrilling experience takes little time before reaching the bottom. It is also possible to walk or run down while enjoying the superb views. In any way, the Cerro Negro provides a unique and intense experience.

5.00I don't leave reviews (aside from this, i suppose) bc I believe we live in an increasingly superficial world where ppl want assurances before they chose to live. They don't want to just experience something. Anyway. This guide was kind. My 12 yo son didn't want to sled down. I had to hold him as he cried. This is hard for a father. Howwvwr, my son listened to the encouragement of the guide...to be courageous and strong, but that it was OK to not do it. In essence, he was human. He acted like a parent (which he is). I'm writing a review because of this....the guide. The tour was good, too.

5.00Russell was the best tour guide ever. He was very attentive to us because I had knee surgery 8 months prior so I was going much slower than I anticipated and my fiancés anxiety kicked in after looking down and he consoled her and encouraged her that she would be able to continue and she did. I would recommend him 100 times if I could. The way he assisted us both throughout the hike up the volcano was amazing, he went above and beyond. He gave clear and concise directions on what needed to be done in order to slide down safely and we had the best time ever. Russell we just want to publicly thank you again.

5.00This activity was great. The guide was informative. We knew we would have to carry our own gear up the volcano, but you were able to pay a local $5 at the start if you wanted.

5.00Our tour guide Russel was super funny and cool. He made us feel super comfortable and motivated us to finish. It’s definitely a difficult hike for beginners but it went by smoothly as Russel made sure we were okay he would check on our breathing and how we felt. Would recommend! 10/10 experience

5.00Russell was the most exceptional guide!!!! Hr was funny and a comedian that made me laugh. He is very knowledgeable about Nicaragua and the volcano and taught me things I didn't know. He is super kind and very attentive to the details. I was picked up on time with no problems . He gives you a backpack with the equipment and your board and you climb up NOTE: Not an hike. This is rock Scrambling. Wear appropriate clothes. Sliding down was so fun!

5.00Russell was a great guide and let us take break when we needed to. The hike up the volcano is approx 45 mins to 1 hour bring lots of water. The view is amazing and it was a great experience
