Experience the rejuvenating powers of the world-famous mud bath & sulphur spas at Hell’s Gate. Used by local Maori for over 800 years, open and clean your skin by lathering it in the unique mud, before exfoliating and cleansing with a soak in the sulphur spa. While you relax, take the opportunity to admire the geothermal reserve. Your body and soul will feel revitalized after this soothing experience.

We recommend that women do not use our bathing facilities whilst pregnant. However, it is an individual’s choice and we recommend that you seek advice from your health professional if you are wanting to bathe.

Not recommended for travelers with heart problems or other serious medical conditions

The minimum age for the Mud Bath is 2.5 years, and for the Sulphur Spa is 6 months.

Children are considered those aged 5 -15. Under 4s are free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Incredibly overpriced ($90 NZD) for what you get: - access to public mud pool for 20 mins - access afterwards to only two hot pools & one cold plunge pool Save your money and go to the mineral springs in Taupo (I paid $24 NZD at DeBrett's for access to multiple pools and it has an awesome kids' water play area) or better yet, go to Hanmer Springs on the South Island.

We persevered with the trip despite the pouring rain and we were assured the rain would make the views even better and they were right! The walk was beautiful. We then hit the mud baths which was really fun and the hot pools after were really relaxing. All the staff were super friendly.

This was an incredible and truly unique experience. We upgraded to include the geothermal pools—absolutely worth it. The mud baths and hot tubs were both relaxing and a lot of fun, and the whole setup feels special from start to finish. Plan for at least 2.5 hours to enjoy everything without rushing. Highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for something memorable and different.
Enjoyable. Be early as the home made at the cafe is worth it

What a great experience! Take the walk then the mud bath, don’t forget the cold plunge to rejuvenate before you do the sulphur soak. Your skin will feel fabulous. Get eye drops off reception when you’re done. Great, knowledgeable and helpful staff. I’ve been three times now. Don’t worry if it’s raining umbrellas are supplied.

This is our second year in Rotorua and one experience we were wanting to repeat. What makes this experience is the staff. So professional and friendly. The mud bath, shower, cold plunge and then hot pool, makes this the perfect wellbeing experience.

Fun experience! People working there were extremely nice :) The pools were all a nice temperature and we really enjoyed chatting with the other patrons.

Just had an amazing time at the Hell’s Gate Mud Bath & Spas in Rotorua absolutely worth it! The geothermal walk was surreal with bubbling mud pools and steamy vents, and the guided tour added rich cultural insight which made the experience even more memorable. The highlight was the mud bath: 20 minutes of floating in warm clay followed by showers and hot sulphur pools—my skin felt silky afterwards.

This is our second time and will be back next year. The superb staff really explained how to make the most of the mud spa. Hire a swimmer as the smell may ruin your suit.

I was trying to get in touch with customers service for hours but no reply. Pick up and drop off wasn't mentioned , I had to go to the customer information centre twice to get in touch with them and arrange transfer. Expensive but not good service.

an great experience in both the mud baths and mineral baths. A bit of fun, but also very relaxing. The ability to hire bathers & towels is excellent for travellers as mud is very difficult ot remove from swimwear if not washed properly.
