Get the chance to visit the site of Herculaneum being guided by an Archaeologist.
Get to know more about this ancient Roman city, inhabited by merchants and nobility, whose life ended dramatically fast in 79 AD. The guide will show you the waterfront where more than 300 remains of people trying to escape by sea were found, but also the Samnite house, the thermal baths, the Temple of the Augustales, the forum, the house of Neptune and Amphitrite, the Gymnasium, the house of the wooden partition and much more.
You will get an intense experience: you can see not only stone, marble and ceramics left, but also carbonized wood and even more exquisite paintings and mosaics than in Pompei.
Herculaneum was destroyed by a much more powerful force which instantly burnt all wood and buried the city under a thick layer which didn’t let the air go through and cause decay.

The tour guide, Luciano Leone was well informed and kept up a good pace all the while being respectful of my partner’s walking limitations. The gardens were beautiful and the sites were spectacular.

Herculaneum a compact site & with our guide Luciano (the self confessed "Idiot Guide"!!) we had an excellent tour of the site & learnt a lot about the history & catastrophe that unfolded here. A must see site BEFORE you go to Pompeii & with FAR fewer visitors.

No map given. Otherwise the guide was very knowledgeable and extremely funny! Though a bit hard to understand, we thoroughly enjoyed the tour and he was at all times looking out for his clients!

Anna was knowledgeable, friendly, kind, and had a wonderful sense of humor. The history was explained beautifully, and I acquired a greater understanding of the incredible history of this part of the globe.

The tour guide, Marily, is an art historian who provided a full picture of Herculaneum -- archaeology, culture, historical context, and art. It was a pleasure spending two hours with her. Afterwards, you can spend time wandering around the ruins to see more. The grounds are a manageable size -- not overwhelming. I would not want to explore without a guide.
