Get the chance to visit the site of Herculaneum being guided by an Archaeologist.
Get to know more about this ancient Roman city, inhabited by merchants and nobility, whose life ended dramatically fast in 79 AD. The guide will show you the waterfront where more than 300 remains of people trying to escape by sea were found, but also the Samnite house, the thermal baths, the Temple of the Augustales, the forum, the house of Neptune and Amphitrite, the Gymnasium, the house of the wooden partition and much more.
You will get an intense experience: you can see not only stone, marble and ceramics left, but also carbonized wood and even more exquisite paintings and mosaics than in Pompei.
Herculaneum was destroyed by a much more powerful force which instantly burnt all wood and buried the city under a thick layer which didn’t let the air go through and cause decay.

Dogs are allowed at the Herculaneum Archaeological Park without breed or size restrictions, however they must be kept on a leash or muzzle and it is mandatory to have bags to collect any droppings. For reasons of logistics and conservation, within the Antiquarium premises, the Boat Pavilion, and the domus featuring mosaic floors, access is permitted only to dogs that are carried in arms or transported in an appropriate carrier.

Meeting place is the Ticket Office of the Herculaneum ruins. You can get there as follows: - By car in via Pignalver (There is a not guarded parking very close the meeting place) - By train in Corso Resina 1 (Circumvesuviana train station is 10 minutes walk away)
The house receives its name from marble statues of stags/deer found in the peristyle.

5.00Luciano Leone was a WONDERFUL guide - knowledgeable, clear, funny, and obviously very committed to sharing his love of this site and archaeology and history in general. For more than 2 hours he had us spellbound, including a couple of kids. He left us wanting to learn more about Herculaneum (and Pompeii) on our own time. Gracie Mille!

5.00Our tour guide, Luciano Leone, was off the charts amazing. He was respectful, enthusiastic, extremely well prepared, and professional. He brought Herculeum alive. The time spent just flew by. I highly recommend this tour and I encourage ASKOS to clone Luciano 😁. Sincerely though it was an awesome and memorable tour 👍🏽

5.00Luciano the archeologist was outstanding with his knowledge and passion for Herculaneum as well as Pompeii. He was extremely attentive to our interests and questions, revealing facts and stories never expected. His notebook of illustrations was excellent in depicting buildings, rooms, artifacts and geography. This is the absolute best way to see such a magnificent site with an exceptional guide/teacher.

5.00This is a much smaller site than neighbouring Pompei, but it is very different in many ways. Because it is smaller it is a lot more manageable for people who are slightly older. The information shared by our guide was fascinating and the tour was small enough o ask questions. The tour guide was highly knowledgeable and very pleasant and Sara was very patience with us all. The facilities at erculano were slight limited and need more investment ie toilets, cash point etc but it is easy to get to by train especially. A truly unique experience.

5.00Sarah did a great job of walking us through the history of the site and was super knowledgeable about everything we saw. I’d definitely recommend wandering around the site a little after the tour finishes as there were several points of interest that the tour couldn’t cover in the time we had. Definitely more manageable to wander by yourself than in Pompeii, thanks to the smaller size of the site. Definitely recommend!
