Get the chance to visit the site of Herculaneum being guided by an Archaeologist.
Get to know more about this ancient Roman city, inhabited by merchants and nobility, whose life ended dramatically fast in 79 AD. The guide will show you the waterfront where more than 300 remains of people trying to escape by sea were found, but also the Samnite house, the thermal baths, the Temple of the Augustales, the forum, the house of Neptune and Amphitrite, the Gymnasium, the house of the wooden partition and much more.
You will get an intense experience: you can see not only stone, marble and ceramics left, but also carbonized wood and even more exquisite paintings and mosaics than in Pompei.
Herculaneum was destroyed by a much more powerful force which instantly burnt all wood and buried the city under a thick layer which didn’t let the air go through and cause decay.

Dogs are allowed at the Herculaneum Archaeological Park without breed or size restrictions, however they must be kept on a leash or muzzle and it is mandatory to have bags to collect any droppings. For reasons of logistics and conservation, within the Antiquarium premises, the Boat Pavilion, and the domus featuring mosaic floors, access is permitted only to dogs that are carried in arms or transported in an appropriate carrier.

Meeting place is the Ticket Office of the Herculaneum ruins. You can get there as follows: - By car in via Pignalver (There is a not guarded parking very close the meeting place) - By train in Corso Resina 1 (Circumvesuviana train station is 10 minutes walk away)
The house receives its name from marble statues of stags/deer found in the peristyle.

5.00Sara our archaeological guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided us with lots of information. She checked we had understood what she had said and asked us if we had any questions and we were given plenty of opportunity to ask them. Sara showed us re creations of areas on her phone and without her explaining the different parts of Herculaneum we would not have known. Very good value and Sara was amazing. After our 2 hour archaeological tour we then able to look at the other areas ourselves there was no rush to leave Herculaneum. An amazing experience made even better by an informative guide.

5.00The tour guide, Sara, was very good. Knowledgeable and personable. The group was by no means “small”; so, at times, while walking, we would loose audio contact with Sara. The meeting place was not explicit enough as there is the main entrance and one lower down where you purchase tickets and go through the turnstile. We had to ask to find the right location and find our group.

5.00Having gone round Pompei the day before strugging with a map and an audioguide, I was determined to book a guided tour for my trip to Ercolano. I was not disappointed! Our guide, Antonella, was friendly, super knowledgeable and interesting, with a great mix of facts and stories and an enthusiasm for answering our questions. It really brought the site to life and I wish I could go back to Pompei and take her with me! Grazie mille, Antonella

5.00Terrific afternoon with archaeologist Sara. Knowledgeable, attentive, engaging. You could spend a great deal of time here and not see it all. She was selective in what she showed us, some really beautiful mosaics, homes, temples, restaurants for the common man. It is an incredibly evocative place, and seems much more complete than Pompeii. Plus a great view of Vesuvius. I felt like I came away with a nice overview of the history and significance of the site, and of the people who lived there. I had a little trouble finding the meeting place. It wasn’t the entrance to the entire archeological park, but at the actual ticket windiw. Alsogive yourself extra time if you are coming on the direct train from naples. It says the train is 15 minutes, but that varies widely apparently. And then there is about a 15-20 minute walk from the train to the ticket window. I wish i could have gone in the morning. The sun was pretty intense (even in mid-April). Take a hat and water.

5.00We had a tour of the Herculaneum today with tour guide Luciano Leone. It was a really good and interesting insight into the archaeological site of Herculaneum. Luciano made it come to life pointing out facts and observations he should be congratulated he was passionate and so very informative. It was an excellent tour. I highly recommend both him and the tour.

5.00Would 100% recommend booking this tour. Due to a rail strike we knew we wouldn't arrive at our allocated time. I messaged the tour company, within minutes they called me back and arranged for us to catch up with the group- we were met, and made to feel relaxed, and calm after our train strike journey taking 2 hours longer than planned. Our guide Louis was so knowledgeable, we felt as though we had stepped back in time to the lives of the Herculaneum townsfolk. He brought everything alive with his descriptions of life and the living conditions. There were about 20 in the group. Everyone was given an earpiece so no matter where you stood you could hear- my husband is very hard of hearing but heard everything. No cafe at Herculaneum, just a bottle and crisps type of machine. My advice would be to bring your own refreshments. A fantastic place to visit- definitely need a guide to get the best from here. Our guide was for 2 hours, but we stayed in for a few more hours- wonderful memories
