Enjoy a magical 5.5 to 6-hour tour to the Hobbiton Movie set, used for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film series.
Leaving the Port of Tauranga, we first travel past the stunning beaches of Mount Mauganui, a top NZ holiday destination, then across the harbour and out into country, up and over the Kaimai mountain ranges and then down into the lush farming district of the Waikato, location of Hobbiton.
At Hobbiton there is time to buy a light lunch at The Shires Rest cafe, browse the extensive souvenier shop or just realax and take in the stunning views. The Hobbiton guide will then join us for a 2 hour guided tour.
This is a coach-based tour of up to 36 passengers, which allows us to book our own private guide at Hobbiton, though on some days we do operate with 12 to 24 seat vehicles.
As the ships arrival time in port varies so much, we adjust the start and end times each day to suit. When your booking is accepted by us, we will confirm the tour start time for the day.

Well organized. Knowledgeable guides. Beautiful scenery. Hobbiton was better than we even expected it to be. Can't think of anything that would have made it better.

Came for the family, and I was completely in awe. Clean, green and the guide Victoria was extremely professional, knows her facts and how to deliver .

A fantastic journey! Everything about the tour was wonderful! Our Guide Saiska and Driver John were exceptional. The bus was very clean and comfortable. And there was plenty of room because the tour can only have a certain number of people. Hobbiton was truly a bucket list fulfilling event for any fan. Sebastian, our Hobbiton Guide, was entertaining and knowledgeable. I very highly recommend this tour.

I was upset to see that our cruise ship (Princess) didn't offer the opportunity to go to Hobbiton from Tauranga and was thrilled to be able to book it through Viator! I have booked many Viator tours in Europe in the past and can't recommend them highly enough. I received excellent pre tour service from Ian and the team at Cruise Tours. Then on the day, we had a lovely comfortable coach and our driver Keith was a mine of information on our drive to Hobbiton. Once we got there, we had enough time to get something to eat from the cafe or check out the souvenir shop before we boarded our "Hobbiton" bus with our guide - Dylan. He was a very energetic and capable guide, who looked after us on our 2 1/4 hour tour, making sure we all had our pictures taken and everybody was together. He did a great job and made it most enjoyable! Hobbiton was much bigger than I envisaged and everything was so very green & pretty. I loved being able to go into one of the "hobbit homes" - what a unique experience that was! During our tour, we were also lucky enough to see both Alexander brothers: Russell and Craig! Then we had some more time for shopping etc before we boarded our coach for the drive back to the ship. Keith gave us some extra special treats by stopping near a kiwi farm (I'd never seen them growing before) & also drove us to a sensational look out spot that we could see all over Tauranga - and we also saw our ship from our birds eye view. I couldn't recommend this tour and this operator enough - it's really a must, whether you are a Lord of the Rings fan or not. It's a really unique concept and a treat to be able to visit.
