It is a lot of driving from Sydney and I was disappointed with different aspects of each venue. First one was interesting with best wine of the day but site under disrepair. The spirits I could have done without… they all had edible glitter and colorings in them which in my mind detracted from taste. The third venue is where we had lunch and the wine and cheese pairing. I very much disliked the wine here and the cheese was not the kind I typically consume and was tolerable. There was a nice choice of food to pick from. I got the nachos as did three other gals but we were disappointed that there was no cheese on them as stated in the menu… they were good as they were but just disappointing without the nacho cheese! I tried a dark lager here and it was fine. The last venue was set up nicely and had wine and chocolate pairing. I think I was too tired to appreciate it. Many sweeter and fortified wines here to go with chocolate. I would never have paid this much for a similar experience in the US… very much catered to tourists who don’t really know enough about wine to care what they are drinking.

We recently did a wine tasting day tour to Hunter Valley as a group of four girls, and while there were some enjoyable moments, the overall experience was mixed – with the tour starting strong but tapering off quickly in quality and service. Booking & Pre-Tour Experience The booking process was easy and straightforward. We appreciated receiving the waiver via email beforehand – though a helpful improvement would be for the tour description to explicitly mention to watch out for the pre-tour email and waiver (it’s easy to miss!). Pick-Up & Transport Pick-up on the day was on time, and the location was easy to find. However, with multiple tour vehicles lined up at the same location and no clear signage, we had to approach several vans to identify our group – clearer instructions or vehicle markings would have helped. The driver was friendly and efficient. The drive was bumpy at times but manageable, with one pit stop along the way. Cellar Doors & Tastings Stop 1: Winery Tour & Tasting This was by far the highlight of the day – great wine, a warm host, and a lovely tour that felt engaging and informative. Stop 2: Gin & Vodka Tasting Unfortunately, this was a letdown. The staff member conducting the session seemed disinterested and rushed through everything. It was hard to hear her, and the atmosphere became awkward – our whole group fell silent, which says a lot. While the alcohol itself was interesting, the poor service made this feel like a chore. Lunch Sadly, this was another low point. The food quality was poor – most of us didn’t finish our meals. On the bright side, we had a private room, which gave us a nice break from the crowded venue. Wine & Cheese Tasting (same venue as lunch) Extremely underwhelming. Our driver ended up serving us the cheese initially (which was odd), and when staff took over, the service was rushed and lacked any real explanation. The cheese was basic and not well-paired. Final Stop: Chocolate & Wine Pairing Again, a rushed experience with little depth. Wines were decent, but the interaction felt transactional and very much on a tight schedule. Final Thoughts Overall, the day was passable. The tour delivered what it promised in terms of logistics and the number of tastings, but the inconsistent service and rushed feel really brought down the experience after a strong start. We left feeling disappointed with how little engagement or hospitality we received at most stops.

Wonderful way to see the Hunter Valley! Great narrative from the bus driver Michael. Time for shopping and comfort breaks. Excellent included lunch. It’s a long day but worth it!
