illi-Langi The Rocks Aboriginal Dreaming Tour is 100 per cent Aboriginal-owned and was developed by Aboriginal Elder, Margret Campbell, a Dunghutti – Jerrinjah woman. It is led by Aboriginal guides who have her permission to share her cultural knowledge. The tour gives you the opportunity to discover how the ancient Aboriginal DreamTime is still alive within the modern Sydney landscape and how the billion-year-old harbour, marine environment, sandstone strata, waterways, flora and fauna continue to influence how Aboriginal people live today.

Cadman's Cottage

The tour begins with an introduction, acknowledgement to Country and an ochre activity. We then move to Bligh Barney Reserve (right next to the Cottage), where - using seasonal native flora and fauna - the tour focuses on natural resources and purposes/uses of plants such as lilly pilly, cabbage palm tree, casuarina, lamandra, braken fern, grevillia and Wollemi pine.

This experience was canceled through an email but not in the app. I did not see the email and showed up. So this was a little frustrating. The refund has been promised.

I loved this tour. Understanding the Aboriginal culture, history and experience was key to framing our trip to Sydney. That's why we did it on our first day in Sydney. It put the rest of our visit in context. Our tour guide Amanda did not pull any punches — if you do not like to hear about the devastation that is colonialism and imperialism, this tour isn't for you. But also, the tour was a celebration of culture. It was clear our tour guide took great pride in being an Indigenous woman. And she shared that pride with us. I would definitely recommend this tour as a starting point for anyone visiting Sydney from abroad.

This tour is a must-do for anyone visiting Sydney. The knowledge we learned from our Gadigal tour guide was completely necessary for any Australia tourists due to the history of the nation, and the Aboriginal people who inhabited it for over 50,000 years. Learning about the culture and history of an indigenous tribe, in the heart of Sydney despite the massive changes to the land, felt like we were in a different world. We left with so much respect, understanding and awe of the people who had such a physical, spiritual and metaphysical connection to the land we’ve been falling in love with. Knowing what happened when Europe colonized Australia made us very pensive, but having this tour to show us the beauty, spirit and sophistication of the people who knew this continent inside and out was completely and utterly inspiring. Since the tour, we have purchased multiple books and art pieces made by Aboriginal people. Our journey started with this tour, and we plan to bring the knowledge and inspiration with us back to America.

Interesting tour from an Aboriginal descended guide. The group were told a lot of information about the early culture and also we heard about the beliefs of Aboriginals and what stories are being inherited. Would definitely recommend when interested in native cultures.

We feel very grateful to have experienced this walking tour yesterday. The knowledge shared provided an essential insight into not only the area itself but indigenous practices and experiences. Being indigenous myself, it was both interesting and saddening to draw parallels between the experiences and beliefs within my own culture and aboriginal culture. Overall, we would recommend this walking tour (ESPECIALLY if you are indigenous), our guide did an amazing job and explained everything clearly. Ngā mihi NUI e te whānau!

Amanda was a fantastic guide. She had a wealth of knowledge and lots of different ways of demonstrating her points which kept the tour engaging. I came away from the tour wishing it had been twice as long, having realised just how little I know about First Nations history and culture. Would highly recommend for anyone with a spare 90 min in Sydney - it'll be well worth your time.

Tour guide did an excellent job of explaining the lives of the people within Australia before England arrived. Very interesting to learn what a walk about really meant. Would definitely recommend if you want to learn about the lives of the indigenous people

Tour guide was racist and looked down on other cultures. There is no need to put other people's culture down just to say how special yours is. Also, she was very disrespectful and made rude comments to me and my friends.
Waited 30 minutes for tour guide who never showed up

Our tour was scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2024. We waited with 8 other people for over 30 minutes, but the tour guide never showed up. We tried calling the tour manager, left a message, and never got a response. Later, I sent an email to the Tour Manager to request a refund and I asked why they didnt contact us about the the cancellation. She responded that there was a glitch in scheduling that they are trying to remedy. There was no apology. She simply told me to contact Viator for the refund. I feel that the tour manager should have reached out to all of those who had reserved this tour to explain why it had cancelled, offered to assist with our refund, and apologized for the inconvenience.
