This sailing activity takes you to a unique part of the Netherlands, just south of Amsterdam. We will sail on the lakes, open bridges ourselves, pass windmills and the famous polders. Live like a local.
I am a licensed and highly experienced sailor. Currently working as a skipper on the tourboats in Amsterdam, but on my off days I'm happy to accomodate small groups to this unique experience.
Normal departure time is 10.30, and return around 16.00, but these times can be scheduled different if it suits you better to start early or start later. Pick up location can be discussed. Spoken languages: English, German, French and Dutch.

I will take you to my happy place, "De Kaag". I have a sailboat (6.2 meter) available there and after a short ride by car, we will arrive at the Dutch shortest Ferry. Another few minutes later we will cross the amazing island of "De Kaag". From there, we will board the sailboat. It's a relatively small but comfortable ship, and we will make a tour of about 3 to 4 hours, depending on the wind. During the tour you will be asked to assist in opening bridges, assisting with sailing, or sail the boat yourself if you are experienced. During the tour, you will be sailing through the polders of the Netherlands, where we will be looking down on the animals that walk lower than us. During the tour we will see windmills, houseboats, a famous construction yard for luxury yachts, and much more. If you have never sailed before: Don't worry. I can manage the boat, and instruct you on essentials if you wish so. Lifevests are mandatory for youngsters and when wind is above 4bft. On hot days, swimming is possible. I will bring coffee and tea plus some small snacks. Depending on group age and experience with sailing, the trip may be cancelled with wind > 6bft and unpredictable rain.

What an amazing experience and skipper Maarten is an incredible sailor who has a vast resume skippering all kinds of sailboats. Masrten is a brilliant man and our conversations were filled with interesting anecdotes of his experiences. He is also a kind and effective teacher. I am an experienced sailor I was amazed by how much I learned from him, but with his skills people with no sailing experience will have a great time just learning how to sail. Thanks Maarten for sharing your knowledge and experience during a great day of learning and fun. Highly recommended to all who want to spend a day of unique experiences on the water.

5.00Hello Maarten We are now back in the states trying to get back into our routine. I enjoyed so much our day sailing in your special place. I am so thankful that my wife ran into your site in her search and were able to fit into your busy schedule. I personally learned so much about the boat and sailing in tight quarters. Reminded me of our piece of the St. Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands. I also really enjoyed the technical pointers you gave me as well as the knowledge you shared with us of your personal little piece of Holland. Truly the highlight of my trip. 5.00It was such a wonderful unforgettable experience. While we had limited sailing experience, Marteen taught us patiently with everything. We had a short drive and then arrived one of the most beautiful local and relaxing recreational places surrounded by local farmers and vacation houses. We were able to be quite hands on to sail with Marteen’s assistance and guidance. After passing a few bridges by lifting and passing them, you knew that could be one of the best local experience. Plus, you also have nice cookies, coffee, and snacks onboard ;) I highly recommend to whoever likes sailing or wants to try sailing with even zero sailing experience.

Together with Maarten, we created unforgettable memories against the backdrop of tranquil waters and totally different side of adventures in Amsterdam area.
