Autopia Tours We had a magical experience on our day trip to Litchfield National Park with Autopia Tours on 20th May 2026. Our guide Andrew met us on time and there were 14 passengers on the coaster bus. It was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well. We travelled on the Stuart Highway out of Darwin over the Elizabeth River. First stop was at Adelaide River to drop off half the passengers who were going on a crocodile jumping cruise. The rest of us continued onto Fogg Dam wetlands. It had originally been set to be rice paddy's. After some failed attempts with machinery and magpie geese eating all of the rice the project was abandoned. Now it is a haven for birdlife, native rats both fresh water and salt water crocs of which we saw a few. A couple of salties even were laying on the road sunning themselves. We saw a jabiru, and some non-native wild pigs and buffalo grazing near the wetland water, a potential meal for a croc. A quick stop at Batchelor to grab some lunch and drinks for the journey. It is pretty much an Aboriginal community now. Andrew took us to see the magnetic termite mounds which look like a never ending graveyard set in marshland. It's quite amazing how they all have both and are narrow unlike the other species. Off to the Buley Rock Pools for an hour an easy walk and a refreshing swim. Several rock pools cascading down. It was like having a natural spa. A few kilometres down the road we went to Florence Falls. It's about 350 steps down but so worth it. Alternatively you can take a 1.1km wander down. The falls did not disappoint. Just stunning. It is from the same water source as Buley Rock Pools. Incredible that in the current dry season the water all comes from sandstone which acts like a sponge. Through the wet season it soaks up all of the water. In dry season it releases it into these incredible waterfalls. There was a water monitor hanging out which was cool. This place was definitely a highlight of our trip. From there 30km drive to Wangi Falls. They caught a couple of salt water crocs 4.5 and 4.9 metres earlier this year so it is fenced off one to keep any crocs still in there in and two keep the tourists out from swimming in the water. It is a beautiful photo opportunity all the same and it had a rainbow through the waterfall. Also a quick opportunity to grab a refreshment at the cafe. Abouta 45 minute drive to the Litchfield National Park sign for a quick photo opportunity. There is also an enormous termite mound which is about 5 metres high. Last stop was Berry Springs pub for a quick drink before heading back to Darwin via Palmerston.. There were many small controlled fires along the roadside which helps the bush regenerate and provides fresh, juicy grass for the agile wallabies etc. Andrew our guide was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna . He enriched us with information about the land, it's history and how the different elements including the termites play an important part to these ecosystems. They feed many birds, echidnas, goannas etc. Andrew was a great guide and very accommodating. Do yourself a favour and book a trip with Autopia Tours.

This is a great starter trip as an intro into Litchfield National Park. Included the croc jumping which was great. The croc boat is a well organised set up which provides great viewing no matter what side of the boat you sit on. The mini coach travel around the park is good. It is long but areas are spread out but we'll worth the drive to them. Gives you enough time to cool down and hydrate more ready for the next stop. Great waterfalls to view and a nice cool down in one of the swimming areas as not all open due to flooding. Great safe spot with toilet and changing area. Finished off the day with a visit to a local pub/tavern where the locals are very welcoming. The tour guide Bogdan was very informative throughout different sections of the trip and is aware where all members are to insure safety (especially when croc signs up due to flooding) and moving to locations. A must do to start your Litchfield adventures.

Fantastic experience seeing crocodiles in their natural environment and the guide was very knowledgeable. Really interesting seeing the waterfalls at full capacity after the cyclone. Rick ran a great commentary. Shame about the sardine can of a bus we were in very squished for us taller people

So glad a 4WD bus vehicle turned up to pick us up after the cyclone had passed through Litchfield. We were still able to get through to most places in Litchfield National Park. The water falls were absolutely spectacular after all the rain. Our driver guide Rick was a real character with fantastic knowledge of the area and all its wildlife and vegetation, he also had a wicked sense of humour. Do your self a favor and book this tour, you won’t regret it!

This tour should be more in the dry season, the advantage that it rained a lot the previous days was that the falls were very spectacular. The guide Lee was great, a lot of knowledge and entertaining told!

When picked up at the designated hotel, bus was late, we were all told that if we had booked direct with Utopia we could have all been picked up from out individual hotels. When we arrived to the Adelaide River jumping crocodiles, after driving up and down the river for an hour and hearing all the excuses why there are no crocodiles, we never saw a crocodile. Once we entered Litchfield NP, we were then told we could not do any swimming in any of the locations, even though at Buley Rockpool people were simply sitting in the edge of the top rock pool with no issues from flowing water. We then got stuck in a downpour of rain when trying to look at another waterfall, even though the tour guide said it won’t rain if we are quick. Then the termite mounds had either collapsed, again the poor tour guide apologised for that, then the remaining standing termite mounds were overgrown with spear grass which is conducive to the time of the year. The tour bus driver was good at trying to make the best out of the day. However, overall we were disappointed to spend $940 and all we got was a bus trip from Darwin and Litchfield NP and back with a storey teller, who we think felt guilty because of the day we had whereby we saw nothing the tour description said we would experience.
