The amount of kangaroos and koalas you get to see is amazing! We were blown away! Everyone was very nice. The kangaroos are just out in a field for you to walk around with. You can even feed them if you buy a bag of pellets. We also booked a close up encounter with a koala directly through the sanctuary. Definitely worth it if you want to pet it and feed it leaves, otherwise, you’ll get your fill of seeing them in other parts of the sanctuary.

Absolutely brilliant if you want to get up close with koalas, kangaroos and other animals. The koala talk is a must - short and very informative. Very well set out environment, with lots of shade for hot days. A food/coffee stall at the entrance for snacks and hot and cold drinks. You can wander amongst the kangaroos and wallabies, pat them, take photos etc.

Hands-down a bucket list experience suitable for all ages. Very easy to get to via public transportation (Bus line 430) from the city — bus stop is right at the sanctuary. Enjoyed seeing the exotic animals especially all the koalas not in cages and the kangaroos out in the open where you can feed them! Happy to support this wonderful cause.

This was extremely memorable to be that close to the koalas and kangaroos!! This sanctuary lives up to its name with how they house the animals in so close to their natural habitat. Make sure you also see the bird show. We enjoyed our morning here!

Hmmmm I have read the 1 star review and have some sympathy with the comments . However as I tourist I trust in the fact that this fully licensed and state approved “sanctuary “ operates at the standards that are required for the welfare of the animals. With that in mind I did enjoy getting close to Koalas / Kangaroos etc respecting that they are wild captive animals. I asked and they confirmed they are not a rescue / hospital for Koalas but do take animals after treatments etc. So all in all we enjoyed our visit and encounter with the Koala etc.

I was genuinely shocked by my visit to Lone Pine Koala “Sanctuary”. Calling this place a sanctuary is extremely misleading — this is clearly a zoo, and a very questionable one. Many of the enclosures are extremely small, especially for birds and reptiles. The birds cannot even fly properly, which is heartbreaking to watch. This is not conservation, it is confinement. The koala enclosures are particularly disturbing: they are tiny, with fake trees, concrete floors, and the animals are kept very close to humans. In the wild, koalas live high up in real trees, far from constant human presence — not at ground level surrounded by noise and people. What shocked me the most is that there is still the possibility to touch, pet and take photos with koalas. Koalas are known to be highly sensitive and easily stressed animals. Allowing physical contact for tourism and profit is unacceptable and unethical. Even worse, the so-called “koala forest” is located right next to the restaurant, in the middle of where people are eating, talking and moving around constantly. Calling this a forest is frankly shameful. This place relies heavily on greenwashing and marketing, using the word “sanctuary” to make visitors believe they are supporting animal welfare, when in reality they are visiting a commercial zoo. The animals may be legally “well cared for”, but this is far from a natural or respectful environment. If you truly care about animal welfare, this place will leave you uncomfortable and disappointed.

Amazing place! Just a short transfer from the City. We got an Uber but River Cruise options are available. Personally I think you need longer than the River Cruise timings allow. Lots of Koalas, Kangaroos, Dingos, Tasmanian Devils, Birds, Wombats (not that we saw one), Sheep and Sheep Dogs, Falconry, Platypus, Reptiles and a Crocodile. Small cafe on site with drinks and snacks. Plenty of seating. Can be hilly but good accessible friendly paths.

My husband and I went to this Sanctuary. It was well kept and great to see the koalas. Very welcoming professional staff. Does not take long to walk around the place. We finished in 2 and a half hours. Thought the shows were quite short though compared to other animal places. But well worth seeing.

We were really impressed with the Sanctuary. Well laid out, there was plenty to see. From birds, to crocodiles, birds of flight, dingos etc, there was so much to do. Feeding and interacting with kangaroos was awesome. There are a ton of koalas and it was worth it (to us) to spend the extra $35 for a few minutes of up close interaction with one. Easy and inexpensive to get to from the CBD (bus 430/445). Get there when it opens (9am) as it got busy noon onwards. Overall, a great experience.
