Plaza Mayor
The name of the plaza has changed over time. It has been known as "Plaza del Arrabal", "Plaza de la Constitución", "Plaza Real", "Plaza de la República" and now "Plaza Mayor". These names reflect events, history and reign in Spanish history. "Plaza del Arrabal" was the original name of the present day "Plaza Mayor". The "Plaza del Arrabal" was once the site of the most popular marketplace until the end of 15th century. Following the Constitution of 1812, all major plazas in Spain were renamed "Plaza de la Constitución". It also held this name 1820 to 1823, 1833 to 1835, 1840 to 1843, and 1876 to 1922. When the Borbón king was restored in 1814, it became known as the "Plaza Real". In 1873, the name changed to "Plaza de la República". At the end of the Spanish Civil War the plaza received its present name of "Plaza Mayor".

4.00Tour guide was friendly and insightful. We had 'skip the line passes' which meant we avoided the pouring rain, unlike others in a long line outside. Rooms were spectacular, inc chandelliers. Well worth a visit.

2.00They cut it short and instead of a full tour they only guided our group through the palace which took one hour instead of 2,5 hours. They didn’t provide an explanation nor reimbursement. Not recommended.
A great tour with a wonderful tour guide. We highly recommend with Jesus. Really brilliant.

2.00Tour was supposed to last 2hr, but the tour guide finished it in 1hr. He rushed through each room without giving enough information about detailed artwork that was present there or allowing us to appreciate it properly. After this tour, I did 4hr self paced tour along with audio guide available at the site. It was much more fun.

5.00Federico was our tour guide. He was lovely and very knowledgeable. The tour took us through some local areas of Madrid and ended at the Palacio. I recommend this tour to anyone who wants a quick overview on some history of Madrid and would like to visit the Palace with a skip the line perk.
