The Matanuska Glacier is one of Alaska's premiere destinations. At 27 miles long and 4 miles wide it is Alaska's largest glacier accessible by road. It also is boasts one of the most accessible areas to walk on of any glacier in Alaska. Marvel at ice that formed thousands of years ago high in the Chugach Mountains.

Your day will start with a magnificent scenic drive along the Glenn Highway with stunning mountain vistas and plenty of time for photo stops. Next we will drive to the toe of the glacier to dawn our ice cleats and begin exploring the glacier by foot. Each day is unique due to the dynamic nature of the glacier. We generally spend two hours and walk three miles on the ice. After exploring the glacier we will have lunch at a local eatery with stunning views of the glacier and surrounding scenery. Each tour will be customized to suit your groups interest. This is a once in a lifetime bucket list opportunity to explore glacial ice!

5.00It was great! Make sure to dress warmly with gloves, hat, and scarf to cover your face. I appreciated the convenience of being picked up from the hotel. Lunch was yummy as well!

5.00Very knowledgeable guides! The hike was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Alaska! The lunch after the hike was pretty good too. Nothing beats a cup of hot coffee and a hot sandwich after a hike through the glaciers.

5.00Incredible experience!! One of the most unique and cool excursions I have ever done, definitely the highlight of our trip to Anchorage. Our guide was Tim, and he was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. We felt completely safe and in good hands. He provided some really interesting insight into life in Alaska, as well as plenty of information about the glacier and surrounding area. He also snapped the perfect picture for us! The communication is spot on to arrange your pickup time the morning of. Even if you are staying at an Airbnb, you just give them the address that you’re at and they will arrange for you to meet at a nearby hotel that has free parking. The trip to the glacier is a nice ride with a pitstop at a gas station where we could grab beverages and a light breakfast. The hike in the winter can be extremely cold (of course)! Highly recommend three layers on top and bottom, two pairs of socks, good waterproof boots, a beanie plus a hood, and a face mask to protect your nose from the wind especially while crossing the lake. The company provides you with spikes that just stretch on over your boots and give you perfect grip on the ice. Felt incredibly safe. You are on the glacier for about 3 hours, but it flies by! Once you are on the glacier and moving you get acclimated to the cold. The guides will help you with timing and safety and pictures the whole time. The whole crew was extremely friendly, interesting to chat with, and professional! The time there is truly awe inspiring. It is such an adrenaline rush and just an overload of natural beauty. After the glacier you stop at a restaurant for a lunch that is included in the cost! You can also get a hot coffee, tea or cocoa to warm up which is deeply appreciated. If you want a dessert you can pay for it separately, and I highly recommend getting a slice of the rhubarb pie! It was soooo good. After you eat you will probably want to nap on the way back home, or stay up to take in more beautiful scenery and see bald eagles flying overhead. I can’t recommend this tour enough! By the end of the day I was blown away with how good of a value the experience is for the cost. If you are on the fence- book it!! You will not regret it.
