The Matanuska Glacier is one of Alaska's premiere destinations. At 27 miles long and 4 miles wide it is Alaska's largest glacier accessible by road. It also is boasts one of the most accessible areas to walk on of any glacier in Alaska. Marvel at ice that formed thousands of years ago high in the Chugach Mountains.

Your day will start with a magnificent scenic drive along the Glenn Highway with stunning mountain vistas and plenty of time for photo stops. Next we will drive to the toe of the glacier to dawn our ice cleats and begin exploring the glacier by foot. Each day is unique due to the dynamic nature of the glacier. We generally spend two hours and walk three miles on the ice. After exploring the glacier we will have lunch at a local eatery with stunning views of the glacier and surrounding scenery. Each tour will be customized to suit your groups interest. This is a once in a lifetime bucket list opportunity to explore glacial ice!

I was in Anchorage on a work trip and had only one full day to explore (my flight lefty at 11 PM). This trip worked out perfectly. I was picked up by Dawn and Bill right at 7:35 from my hotel and quickly picked up the rest of the group. We had a smooth and informative ride to Matanuska (with a van filled with water bottles and snacks) for around 2 hours. During that time, we had a scenic stop for photos as well as bathroom/coffee break. Once we got there, we hit the ground running! It was spectacular and we were well-equipped with our crampons and guides. Bill and Dawn were patient with all of our photos, explaining everything and guiding the way. It was a spectacular, beautiful experience, and the entire group was lovely. I had enough service to be able to stream my son's baseball game the whole time and it was wonderful to be able to do both. Lunch was right outside the park and it was delicious with various options as well as another great view. I highly recommend this tour, whether in a group (as there was one in our van), an older couple, or solo travelers. I will be coming back to Anchorage and bringing my family along- this is not to be missed!

Bill was awesome. I was feeling a bit under the weather and was unsure about going but he told me the hike is easy enough and it'll be very beautiful. I'm glad it was enough to convince me. Had a great time and saw a lot of amazing views. Walked/touched the glacial hike.

The glacier tour was an incredible experience! Our guide Megan was punctual in picking us up and took us on an amazing hike across the glacier. She very enthusiastic, helping us take lots of great photos and providing fascinating insights into the natural landscape along the way. The restaurant she took us to afterward was charming, with delicious food that perfectly wrapped up the day. Highly recommend this activity!
