Saint Steven Monastery is closed on Mondays. Due to this fact, on this day of the week Saint Nicholaos Monastery or Roussanou Monastery will be visited

Meteora
Meteora is an area that covers few square kilometers, where an ancient monastic community and a rare geological phenomenon of huge rock pillars coexist in absolute harmony. Located at the northwest tip of the plain of Thessaly, Meteora today has become one of the most popular destinations of mainland Greece. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an archeological site and an officially declared holy place! At the foothills of the rocks, there are 2 settlements, the town of Kalabaka and the village of Kastraki.
Byzantine Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary
It is a must-see church, not only for its age and precious 11th century Byzantine frescoes, but also because of the construction material of its walls. Relics of an ancient Greek temple dedicated to God Apollo have been embedded in the wall. In its interior one can also pay attention to the older mosaic floor that is revealed in specific spots beneath the current floor. This is definitely one of the most precious early Christian basilicas around Greece and even now days serves as an active church for the locals.

5.00Our family did two tours with Visit Meteora in August 2025: the Meteora Sunset Tour with guide Lina and driver Sotos, and the Meteora Half-day Sightseeing Tour with guide Apostolis and driver Yanis. Both tours were perfectly organized, taking us to the best viewpoints and most fascinating sites in Meteora. On the first tour we got to watch a spectacular sunset. The guides did an amazing job sharing lots of information in a friendly and non-tiring manner. They kept the group engaged with the right volume and pace, and eagerly answered all our questions. Interestingly, there was very little overlap between the two tours, even though they covered the same area - Meteora. Lina and Apostolis each brought their own perspective, highlighting different aspects of history, culture, religion, and the landscape, making the tours feel complementary. The vans were comfortable, and the drivers were friendly and truly professional. We highly recommend Visit Meteora for exploring this unique and breathtaking region and its monasteries.

5.00It's 4hrs of stunning views and exploring, amazing tour guide Lina and driver Yanas took care of us. If you choose pick up from your hotel or apartment bare in mind they will be a few minutes after the start time but well worth it.

5.00Excellent tour, great way to see parts of Meteora and experience a beautiful sunset. Our guide and driver were both fantastic. The location to see the sunset is very crowded and you have to scramble up a large pile of concrete so just beware. Our bus was also quite warm- the air conditioning didn’t seem to work properly but it did not keep us from having a great time.

4.00It was good overall. Be aware you must bring cash if you want to visit inside sites. It was mot mentioned anywhere in the description that cards are not accepted
