This is more than just a weaving workshop — it’s a full cultural immersion led by a native Zapotec artisan in the heart of Teotitlán del Valle. You will connect directly with a living tradition that has been passed down for generations.
We use only natural dyes and fibers, prepared by hand using ancestral methods. Guests are not just spectators — they actively participate in every step: from learning about local plants and insects used for color, to weaving their own piece on a traditional loom.
The experience also begins with a Zapotec cleansing ritual and includes a homemade meal, making it a warm and meaningful human exchange — not just a class, but a window into our way of life.

It was really a lovely and also insightful day! Misael and his whole family are so nice and welcoming, and their skills in rug weaving are really great. In a day, we went to the market (coz it was a Sunday), washed the fleece, did a bit spinning, dyed many natural colors using local materials, wove some traditional pattern of Zapotec culture. What a beautiful experience! I think I’ll go back and spend more days with them to weave a complete rug next time!

This workshop was a particularly beautiful and inspiring experience!Misael and his family were warm and hospitable that it was a pleasure to actively witness all the processes of weaving with natural dyed wool . It was instructive and heartwarming to be presented with this knowledge, which is close to nature and passed down from generation to generation, and to be allowed to try it out on the loom. We will be back and happy to experience even more interesting botanical and chemical magic! Hasta luego , Cara familia de la Casa de Angeles!

This was one of the highlights of our Mexico trip. I already had an interest in weaving and had taken a basic tapestry weaving class but this workshop was special in that we were taught to prepare the wool from start (spinning and dyeing) to finish (weaving). They offered pickup from where we were staying which was convenient and prepared breakfast and lunch for us which was lovely. The workshop was at their family home in Teotitlan and they are a known family within the area for weaving, who have been practicing for generations. The family was super warm and welcoming and we learned so much about the natural pigments used to dye the wool and the weaving process. Such an amazing experience - I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in weaving.

Miseal created such a unique experience for me and my best friend! We didn’t know what to expect and we were really blown away by the entire experience. He picked us up from our Airbnb and dropped us off at his family home. They started off the workshop by preparing food and drinks for us and introduced us to the entire family. We were shown the entire step by step process of weaving and natural dyeing and learned so much. This was the highlight of our trip to Oaxaca and we highly recommend everyone try this workshop and meet this lovely and kind family!

Miseal and his family welcomed my group warmly into their home. Miseal explained step by step how a scrap of wool turns into a beautiful rug. He thoughtful explained the process of brushing the wool, making the yarn and the dying process. He was extremely paitent in teaching my friends and I the process of using the loom to make a beautiful coaster. The four hours spent at this workshop flew by. His wife was very kind in providing us a welcome breakfast, an afternoon snack and a farewell lunch. I highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in learning about the beautiful textile culture of Oaxaca. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon Misael! It truly become the highlight of my trip.

Visiting this family workshop was one of the highlights of my trip to Oaxaca. I learned so much about Zapotec weaving traditions, from natural dyes to the symbolic designs in the rugs. The explanation was clear, engaging, and full of passion for their culture. We also got to see the weaving process on the loom, and I even tried it myself—it gave me a new appreciation for the incredible skill and patience behind each piece. The family was warm and welcoming, making me feel at home.
