Nizwa Souq
The tour starts in the morning, we'll drive towards Nizwa. Nizwa was the capital of Oman during Al Yaruba Dynasty we'll visit the famous Nizwa Souq (Market). a wide variety of vendors offer their goods in the streets of the souk from here you can find, vegetables, pottery, jewelry, handicrafts, Omani sweets (halwa), Dates, spice, and souvenirs which are sold in authentic old market halls that few places can boast. Especially interesting is the Friday cattle market when the locals come to sell their, goats, cattle, sheep, and chickens in a circus style open marketplace. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Nizwa+Souq/@22.9322988,57.5293457,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x3e8ef0bff5e604ab:0xa769e27f0c4d1ff0!8m2!3d22.9322939!4d57.5319206!16s%2Fg%2F1hc15f3d7?entry=ttu
Nizwa Fort Oman
Next to the Souq is the Nizwa fort and castle the fort it’s been built in 1649 and the castle been build in 888. The fort is a museum today and offers splendid views of this ancient town and the surrounding mountains. You can walk around in this impressive fort and castle with many passages rooms. The fort is an architectural testimony to the economic and military achievements of the early Yaruba dynasty from the mid-17th century. It was a military stronghold designed to withstand even the strongest of attacks at the time. Even along the corridors, many traps were laid to deter any intruders that might have penetrated the defenses.

What an incredible day! I was picked up from my hotel by the incredibly charming, knowledgeable and funny Said who drove me from Muscat into the suburbs and out into the fascinating countryside, keeping me updated along the way about all the local features, quirks, culture and points of interest. I was guided on to Nizwa which was the highlight of my whole trip. It's a lovely town with a rich history. The souk was interesting and Said guided me gently through it. At no point did I feel pressured by hawkers or anything like that, I was welcomed and treated with hospitality and Said was clearly well respected. The fort is breath-taking and rich with history, with nice views from the roof of the surrounding town and agricultural land. We enjoyed coffee, dates and really tasty flatbread made in front of us. Said then took me into the absolutely stunning Jebel Akhdar for a drive around some absolutely amazing sights. It's seriously beautiful up there, and the weather was lovely and cool. It was an incredible day and one I will remember for the rest of my life. Thank you so much Said.
