If you're visiting Cracow do not forget to visit Nowa Huta! The main reason to build Nowa Huta city was a huge steel mill constructed in the eastern part of Krakow. Today you can visit the official buildings of the former Steel Mill Administration and see the interiors of the management offices and underground bomb shelters. These buildings, called the "Communist Palaces of Polish Socialist Realism", are a very good example of Polish architecture of the 1950s. Join your tour guides and visit the partially abandoned buildings of the former communist era.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Nowa Huta Steel Mill near Kraków. The two sides of the administrative building (management and workers) were interesting to compare (everyone being equal, but one side more equal), and it was great to wander through the various rooms, many with the original furniture, while learning about the history of the gigantic steel mill. Our tour guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and engaging, he gave us a deep look into the political and social context of the site over the past several decades. It was also interesting to see how parts of the building are now used for TV shows, movies, and even video games. After touring the offices, we visited one of the bunkers below, where we learned how they were prepared for chemical or wartime emergencies, but not necessarily a nuclear attack. Overall, the tour was both educational and enjoyable, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in history, architecture, or industrial heritage.

Excellent tour guide Matthew. Super interesting and informative seeing the insides of the admin buildings. Seeing where dignitaries from all around the world sat. Seeing old memorabilia. Walked through the tunnel and then into a bunker. Our trip ran way overtime as Matthew seemed more then happy to fill us in with as much information as he could to a very interested audience. Everything is authentic and basically untouched from the phones to the maps, the furniture, carpet etc. enjoyed this tour immensely

Because I liked the architectural style of that era, I accidentally discovered this trip, and after the registration, my heart was very distressed because it was a very small tour, and the result of the tour guide was very enthusiastic, and the tour was also wonderful and abundant!

Guide was excellent, knew his stuff and was enthusiastic about the subject without being overbearing. Even gave me a lift in his Lada.

Absolutely loved this. So informative, really engaging guide and amazing to get to walk around these buildings pretty much as they were left. Definitely one of the best tours I've been on.

Fascinating place which was really brought to life by a very skilled guide who shared with us personal family experiences and gave us an insight into Communist Poland. Good use of media and so many photo opportunities

What a fantastic tour this was. Such a knowledgeable and friendly guide. This is one of the best things we have done whilst in Krakow. The tour was really extensive. The guide was obviously very passionate about this subject and it was very evident in the information he provided. Such a beautiful building. Just a shame more people do not visit. This is a must do whilst in Krakow

Fascinating. A great visit and a great guide. This is much more interesting than Wawel Castle (which is overcrowded and contains very little of any serious interest).

It is unique and remarkable to be able to see this former Administrative Building of the Nowa Huta Steel Factory, built in specific architectural style of the 1950s, and almost untouched as of today. The building has been 'abandoned' for over 10 years, and is starting to show it's age - but that makes it all the more interesting. Hopefully the State and the owners (an absentee global steel giant company - who's name I don't recall) will spend the money required to save this building and restore it to useful purpose (including visitor tours). The guide was excellent - and had so much detailed knowledge. If there was one criticism it was that everything 'bad' associated with the building or the company was attributed to 'communism'. For example, the stylistic and quality differences between the Administrative building and the 'Workers' building. But without doing a comparison with similar plants in the 'West', this seems like a false comparison. In fact, in the 'capitalist' west the differences might be even starker!
