Hi everyone. I'm Onur Erturk, an archaeologist and licensed tour guide who was born and grew up in Ankara. I guide my guests at the Ankara Castle, The Alaeddin Mosque, Anatolian Civilizations Museum, Temple of Augustus and the Hacı Bayram Mosque and the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. I guide all around Turkey, but I mainly live in Ankara. So, I'm very informative, experienced and knowledgeable about the history, archaeology and the culture of the city.

As an archaeologist I would describe the archaeology of Turkey and the artifacts in the museums in a more detailed way, therefore you will have the real idea of the ancient civilizations, their connections with the modern Turkish people and culture. And on our daily Ankara City Tour you will have a chance to taste the local and traditional cuisine as in the lunch.

Ankara Castle

The Ankara Castle is actually the birth place and the heart of the Ancient City which dates back to the 3rd Century BC and constructed by the Celtic People. The later civilizations upgraded the fortress and the Old Town was formed around it before the Turkish Republic was established in 1923.

This is the oldest mosque of Ankara which was constructed in the 12th Century by the Seljuk Turks. Some Roman-Byzantine Columns or bricks were recycled in its construction.

Our guide was initially meant to be Onur but, due to personal circumstances, he had to withdraw but he found and recommended a replacement called Mehmet who was more that we could have hoped for (with an excellent command of English) The trip was not in the order suggested on Trip Advisor but due to severe rain at times, that was just as well. Mehmet provided wonderfully informative additional information at all locations, particularly at both the Anitkabir (Ataturk's Mausoleum) and at the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations. At Anitkabir, Mehmet was able to provide us with a deep appreciation of what Ataturk achieved for his nation - independence for the Turkish people, the establishment of a democratic tradition and impressive progress in many social areas (rights for women, education, etc.) At the Museum, Mehmet was able to direct us to the many, often hidden, highlights within a vast array of exhibits. His knowledge of Anatolian history was brilliant. Thoroughly recommended.

Onur is an amazing tour guide. He is knowledgeable and kind. He is an expert historian. The transportation was very convenient as well.

We were really lucky to get Onur as our tour guide in Ankara. I am a historian by my background, and so guided tours are pretty challenging for me as I am very demanding. My main goal for the Ankara tour was the Anatolian Civilization Museum, and our experience would have been very different if we had not have Onur with us. He walked us through the rich history of Anatolia starting from the Stone age up until the Iron age, weaving multiple objects displayed in the museum in one coherent mutli-layered story of this fascinating region. We really enjoyed Onur's sharing his view on the history of the Ottoman Empire, Türkiye Republic founding years as well as current political and cultural landscape. Onur is a great guide and a companion - whether you are an experienced Turkophile or just a visitor looking to learn more about this fascinating country. Thank you, Onur!
