Ancient City of Ephesus
Ephesus has been located at different places in different times. The first settlement of the city was located on Ayasuluk Hill and inhabited by ancient Anatolians ( Amazons, Hittites ), Carians and Lelegians. The second settlement of Ephesus was on the North of Mount Panayır ( Mount Pion ). As with other cities of the Aegean cost of Anatolia, Ephesus came to be ruled by Croesus of Lydia and Persians. The third settlement was located in the valley between Mount Panayır and Mount Bülbül ( Mount Coressus ), found by Lysimachus, one of the generals of Alexander The Great. This settlement of Ephesus is the biggest and can be visited today. Finally, due to the persistent silting up of the harbour and repeated raids by Arabs, the city changed its location back to Ayasuluk Hill forming Fourth Ephesus. History of Ephesus According to excevations,the history of Ephesus dates back to 6000 BC, to Chalcolithic Period. Excavations at the Ayasuluk Hill brought to light a settlement, thus ancient Ephesus was first on the located on Ayasuluk Hill. It was first settled by Anatolian Tribes, for Ephesus is mentioned in Hittite cuneiform tablets under the name of Apassas that means “Honey Bee”. According to the ancient geographers Strabo and Pausanias, and the historian Herodotus claim that Ephesus was found by Amazons and the native tribes of the area were the Carians and the Lelegians around 3000 BC. Amazons gave the city’s name as Ephesos, can be named one of Queens or generals of Amazons. According to them Hittites came here around 1400 BC and changed the name of the city from Ephesos to Apassas. Ionian colonists came here around 1100 BC.

5.00We loved our shore excursion at Ephesus Turkey. Our tour guide Memo was excellent. Very informative and was a wonderful guide. Never rushed us, knew the best times to go to the over populated places, and the best places to take photos. My husband and I were the only ones on this excursion when we were expecting a small group so it most definitely worked out in our favor!! Driver and ride were also perfect. Recommend 100%!!! Thanks Memo!!!

5.00For us it was fortunate to find an expert, prepared and friendly guide who in a short time (unfortunately we only had 8 hours) made us visit one of the most important archaeological sites, made known the craft activities and taste the local delights.... It was a visit that made us taste a part of the traditions and culture of this fascinating country, making us curious even more! To return absolutely.

1.00Unfortunately we did not have a good experience. We booked a full tour with the Viator assistant himself, as we were a large group. The guided tour was in Spanish, but it was in English. We booked a complete tour with several sights, but we did not go to Selcuk, Kusadasi Castle, Temple of John. The group was dissatisfied.

5.00Our guide had a very good knowledge of the circuit, which allowed us to avoid traffic jams to enter the site and thus have time to see everything of the old city. In addition he accompanied us for a typical Greek meal and a demonstration of the making of carpets by hand. He shared his knowledge of history and culture alive. We had a wonderful day.

1.00I booked this private tour of me & my husband way in advance. I paid for the tour even before the pay day & requested Ali (highly recommended in the review) to be our guide. Since this is a private tour, I chose 5/9/25 10am start time & had communicated this to Viator but the tour operator nor Viator had never communicated with me after. At 8:50a that morning when we started to have breakfast on the cruise ship, Ali called me & asked us to meet at the pier right away. I told him our tour time is 10a but he said Kusadasi is very busy that day & he may have to see IF he could find me another small group tour for that starting time. Then he made up a bunch of garbage reasons like he couldn’t find a car for us as the original one had an accident on the way etc., then he jumped to conclusion “your tour is canceled, I’ll refund you”😡. I told him I want to go to this tour rather than a refund, he then dropped the line. I guess he might have got some other bigger groups request that day such that he dumped us! Totally unprofessional & extremely poor customer service. I will boycott this tour!

5.00We had an awesome time Serdar. He was very informative on all the history of Türkiye. We had a great visit to Ephesus with all of its history. We then had a wonderful lunch. Overall it was a great tour and would definitely recommend this tour if you are visiting Küdasai.
