One of the U.K.’s largest fishing ports-not in terms of size as it’s a relatively small port but in the tonnage of catch : Newlyn really punches above its weight in the story of fishing in Cornwall. We'll have the opportunity to drive right amongst the beam trawlers and learn of the fishing history of Cornwall and the industry involved to put food on people's tables. As with any location that we pass through on this 'Best of the West' Tour, there is so much history all around us and your Tour Guide will ensure that you have a true insight into the character of the area and a selection of fun facts and anecdotes to take home with you!
Penzance
Penzance - (Cornish : Pen Sans - the 'Holy headland') so much history to learn of and so little time! The arrival of the London bound train station in 1859 enabled the wealthy Victorians to visit the 'English Riviera' and Penzance is a fine old town steep in history with piratical tales and Maritime connections aplenty! Your guide will point out smuggling haunts, wonderful pieces of Georgian architecture with literary connections, as well as marvelling at the promenade (Cornwall's only one) and the art deco open air Lido-geothermally heated and the largest in the UK... While stepping out onto the promenade with one another, we will consider the art history of the area generally and the Newlyn School of art in particular before moving on with purpose!

5.00Book now Conrad, the owner of Kernow ( Kernow is the Cornish word for Cornwall) was born to be a tour guide. I have been on many tours, and hands down Conrad is the BEST tour guide I have had. Born and bred in Penzance Conrad knows Cornwall. Incredibly knowledgeable, entertaining, polite, respectful, everything you want in a tour guide as Conrad is also a very safe driver. Conrad greatly enriched our Cornwall experience We did the North tour on our first tour. Wow. Fans of the Poldark books and series and Doc Martin TV series this is for you. Dramatic scenery ( Bedruthan step!!!) and history. Conrad interspersed the tour with songs and used AI in best possible way to interpret carving on the end of pew benches in 13th century St. Mawgan village and church. We also did the West tour and loved it as well. Hard to pick which tour was best but the West tour including Minark theater, Mousehole, Tin mining history might just be the winner! Conrad will customize your tour so if you have a special interest just ask. We were so pleased with our tours. Conrad is a former primary teacher and I will give him an A+++ Thanks Conrad for 2 fabulous days.

5.00Typically, not my type of tour but Conrad was prompt, gracious and full of knowledge as well as trivia about the entire swath of Cornwall. The entire family enjoyed from beginning to end and I wasn’t going to challenge his amazing ability to reference Monty Python. (I started the references and he quickly chimed in with my conversation.). Lastly, if he suggests a song to play or wants to sing one for you, do not pass up the opportunity.

5.00Our day spent with Conrad on his "Best of the West" Cornwall tour exceeded all our expectations. Conrad is a terrific guide and host of his beloved homeland. We spent a full day visiting interesting and quaint towns and historical sites and seeing the beauty of the West Cornwall coastline, while learning about the history, culture and lore of Cornwall. We thoroughly enjoyed his humor, his passion for sharing his love of Cornwall and even his singing of Cornish folk songs and sea shanties. We packed a lot in one day and he kept on track while allowing for some flexibility. We highly recommend him to anyone interested in exploring Cornwall.

5.00Our favorite tour (excursion) on a 22 day cruise!! Conrad made our day interesting and fun. He is passionate about Cornwall and very knowledgeable about the history and folklore. You will not find a more perfect guide of Cornwall.

Want some time to dose off in the van in between site visits bc you stayed up too late the night before? Check. Conrad knows his stuff. Great guide. Even better human being. Adjusts to your preferences and style and will share his Cornish music passion too! Highly recommend.

Our tour guide Michael was wonderful – not only knowledgeable about the region’s history, but also made us feel like we were spending the day with an old friend. We saw things that we’ll never see again, and truly enjoyed it.

5.00We highly recommend spending time with Conrad! His love for Cornwall truly shines. He is so personable and enthusiastic. His energy is boundless and infectious! We saw so many sights and I wish we could have just kept on going. We do have the opportunity to go on the Stones and Bones tour Wednesday so there is more excitement to come. Be sure to connect with Conrad when you are in Cornwall.
