Newlyn
One of the U.K.’s largest fishing ports-not in terms of size as it’s a relatively small port but in the tonnage of catch : Newlyn really punches above its weight in the story of fishing in Cornwall. We'll have the opportunity to drive right amongst the beam trawlers and learn of the fishing history of Cornwall and the industry involved to put food on people's tables. As with any location that we pass through on this 'Best of the West' Tour, there is so much history all around us and your Tour Guide will ensure that you have a true insight into the character of the area and a selection of fun facts and anecdotes to take home with you!
Penzance
Penzance - (Cornish : Pen Sans - the 'Holy headland') so much history to learn of and so little time! The arrival of the London bound train station in 1859 enabled the wealthy Victorians to visit the 'English Riviera' and Penzance is a fine old town steep in history with piratical tales and Maritime connections aplenty! Your guide will point out smuggling haunts, wonderful pieces of Georgian architecture with literary connections, as well as marvelling at the promenade (Cornwall's only one) and the art deco open air Lido-geothermally heated and the largest in the UK... While stepping out onto the promenade with one another, we will consider the art history of the area generally and the Newlyn School of art in particular before moving on with purpose!

Outstanding full day tour of West Cornwall

5.00My wife and I (we're roughly 65) had an outstanding private tour around the west end of Cornwall with our guide Conrad. He is both very convivial and extremely knowledgeable, and worked with us to customize a tour (based off of one of his regular small group tour itineraries) that was fine-tuned to our interests in history (including several local old churches, and a 5000 year old stone circle you can actually touch and experience (unlike a certain other equally old stone circle in England)) and spectacular scenery (such as Lands End, Cape Cornwall, and the dramatic Botallack mine sea-side ruins). We included a stop at the famous outdoor Minack Theatre (separate admission charged), which we would personally recommend, and where we were also able to have a quick lunch from a cafe with unsurpassed views of the cliffs and water below. I'd only add that although I'm quite comfortable with left-hand driving generally, the convenience of having a good local guide handle the navigation through the VERY narrow roads of West Cornwall cannot be overstated. Anyway, it would have been impossible to see all we did in our day with Conrad had we tried to do it ourselves -- even assuming we knew to go to all the other places that he also took us to along the way! Thank you, Conrad, for a great day in West Cornwall -- and we hope to be able to book with you next time to see some of the many other sights that we just didn't have time to do on our one day introduction to this special place!!!

5.00Our tour was outstanding! Our family took the west Cornwall tour. Conrad and Michael were our guides and both were full of information both historical and culturally current. They were entertaining and jovial in addition to selecting interesting stops!

5.00I’ll be honest, I didn’t know much about Cornwall before this tour, but it was a port on our cruise. I didn’t really know what to expect, but it wasn’t my most anticipated port. After finding this tour, it quickly became something I was very much looking forward to and it did not disappoint. Conrad has so much love and enthusiasm for what he does and is bursting to share it with everyone. He made sure we saw what was most important to us and really tailored the experience for us. He was also conscious of the time and making sure we got back to our ship with time to spare. Hands down the best tour ever! If you’re debating booking this, don’t. You won’t regret it.
Overwhelming, each hour brought another wondrous experience.

5.00Conrad was amazing! He really knows his stuff and he tailored our experience to our interests within The Best of The West Tour! We had Pasties, and saw Neolithic a Neolithic stone circle, a couple of church yards, and a burial mound, as well as lands end! It was fantastic. Throw in some dad jokes and Monty Python references… Perfection!! All 5 of us enjoyed ourselves tremendously!!!
