Embark on an unforgettable Private Tour along Romania’s most spectacular road – the Transfăgărășan Highway, hailed by Top Gear as the best driving road in the world.
Our adventure begins with a visit to the stunning Curtea de Argeș Monastery, a landmark of Romanian history and architecture, where kings and queens now rest.
From there, we head towards the ruins of Poenari Fortress, perched dramatically above the Argeș River Valley. We’ll stop to admire the fortress from below and hear its connection to Vlad the Impaler, the real Dracula.
Next, we wind our way up the mountains to the impressive Vidraru Dam, a massive hydro-engineering structure offering panoramic views.
The journey continues higher into the Făgăraș Mountains, with stops at scenic viewpoints before reaching the breathtaking Bâlea Lake (open only from June to October), nestled at over 2,000 meters altitude.
Before descending, we’ll also stop to admire Capra Waterfall – a beautiful cascade surrounded by unspoiled nature.

Curtea de Arges Monastery
Curtea de Argeș Monastery is one of the most famous and historically significant religious sites in Romania. A masterpiece of Byzantine and Romanian Orthodox architecture, with Moorish, Gothic, and Renaissance influences. It serves as a burial place for Romanian royalty, including: • King Carol I and Queen Elisabeth • King Ferdinand and Queen Marie
Poenari Citadel is a medieval fortress located on a steep cliff in the Făgăraș Mountains, near the town of Arefu, Romania. It is famously associated with Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Țepeș), the 15th-century ruler of Wallachia, who is often linked to the Dracula legend. Here we will not be able to enter the fortress but we will see it from the outside.

My friends and I were delighted, we were lucky that it was private, he explained each point in detail and helped us find more areas to see in Bucharest. The instructor Sebastian was always very kind and attentive, he took us to some beautiful mountains, we enjoyed it very much and we hope to return soon. We see 🐻!!!🥰

This trip was amazing! We went: to a prison, a monastery ( beautiful!), Vlad the Impaler’s castle, to a very unique town (where each home was not like the next!), to see a huge dam (safe stray dogs live there), hibernating bears😊, and then a long twisty upward climb in the car to 1600 meters ( to have a delicious lunch and go sledding in the snow tundra!). Super fun day! George , our guide, is super knowledgeable of all information and a great companion/driver on the trip!

We had a fantastic private tour on the Top Gear Road / Transfăgărășan Highway with George. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. One of the highlights was going sledging, which was so much fun and made the day even more memorable. The scenery was incredible, and George made sure everything was perfectly paced. Highly recommend him for an unforgettable experience!

Overall nice experience. There is no admission fee. It was a nice full day experience. The atmosphere was rustic. The crowd was small but in the summer it would be a nightmare as one of the staff mentioned that we would have walked for an extra 15 minutes. I saw a baby bear but it disappeared so quickly. September is a good time to go. I went early October. Still it was a good crowd and the staff (including the driver)

You cannot miss this tour if you visit Romania. We have come home with so many happy memories that will always be with us. We felt connected to the people, history, nature and the environment. Our Guide, Bogdan, made the day out. His knowledge and professionalism were to a high standard. He was able to answer my questions. In particular, I wanted to know more about the Orthodox religion, and Bogdan was able to explain in clear terms. As someone with a disability, he was able to assist me with stairs and other potential obstacles. I felt safe and confident in his company.

I arrived on 3 January 2025, the check-in was at 17.00. The staff was very useful, give all the information to have a great experience and to enjoy at full. The room was Johannes Brahms , very nice, and personalised. Sleeping was very comfortable and was warm. The hotel provided with warm sleeping bag. During the night outside was snowing full night and temperatures dropped to -15°C, but inside was very nice.
