This experience isn't just a cooking class; it's an immersive cultural experience where guests are taken to our local market to pick fresh produce and then to our traditional Ugandan home where we'll dance, laugh, cook, and most importantly, eat together.
Together, our food is carefully crafted with local, organic ingredients fresh from mama earth, and prepared traditionally over fire for incredibly smoky flavors. AND cooked with the most important ingredient: love!
Food around the world is unfortunately being westernized, but with Sylvia's upbringing in a rural village of western Uganda, she preserves traditional and authentic food preparation methods that are now being lost.
This experience is perfect for adventurous solo travelers, couples, families, etc; anyone who travels to experience the true culture and people of the places they visit.

The whole village experience packed into a cooking class. Insightful visit to local market to purchase food for the meal. Warm family environment where all pitch in with their own set of skills such chapati making for the “ Rollex”. Sylvia’s experience and local knowledge combined with buckets of appreciation and enthusiasm for class is a real treat.

What a beautiful time we had with Sylvia and her family. So glad we spent the morning with her going to the market, then coming back to her house for a lesson in how traditional Ugandan food is prepared. Sylvia does such a great job bringing in other family and friends to show and teach each course. Along the way she explains how foods are cooked and how people live in the villages. Sylvia’s bubbly warm personality and her beautiful family are what really make this a must do if you are in Entebee. Oh and we got to eat the feast at the end. No dinner that night.🤭

Sylvia’s cooking class was truly outstanding! During a layover in Entebbe before our gorilla trekking adventure, three couples in our group booked this experience—and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Sylvia and her wonderful family welcomed us with open arms and a cup of delicious African tea before taking us on a walk to the local market. There, we picked out fresh ingredients as Sylvia shared fascinating insights into Ugandan culture. Back at her home, we prepared an incredible spread together—Matooke, Chapati, Luwombo, brown rice, and even the famous Rolex! Cooking alongside Sylvia’s family was such a joy; they guided us through each step, made us feel at home, and even entertained us with music and dancing while we cooked (which some of us couldn’t resist joining in on!). We ended the evening with a buffet-style feast in the beautiful outdoor dining area, enjoying all the dishes we had prepared. Sylvia and her family are truly lovely, and this class is a must if you want an authentic and memorable Ugandan food experience

10 Stars for this unique family oriented cultural experience!. If you are in Entebbe do not miss the chance to deepen your understanding and appreciation of Ugandan culture and food and community. Sylvia will take you to the market to hand-select produce for your Ugandan feast! Then you will join members of her family as she guides you through traditional recipes over the charcoal stoves. Everyone helps as the feast is prepared, and as you fall in love with Sylvia and her family: Helen, Veronica, Samuel, Emmanuel, Christiano, and Thomas. The best experience we had in this area. Treat yourself!!

It was such a wonderful and unforgettable memory. A couple and their 4-year-old daughter joined the dinner plan at 17:00. This is a Ugandan traditional cooking class hosted by a mom (teacher) at the Sunflower Hotel, a small family-run hotel just a short drive from Entebbe Airport (less than 10 minutes away). But it's not just a cooking class. When I arrived, the first thing I felt was Ugandan hospitality as the teacher and his daughter welcomed me with open arms. We dropped off our luggage and walked with the teacher to the local market to buy some. It is a real local market that tourists would never visit on their own. We walked around talking about the ingredients we want to eat, the traditional dishes we want to eat, and Uganda. The people of the town are very friendly and it is a very fun town to just walk around. We buy ingredients, return to the hotel and start cooking classes in the kitchen in the back building of the hotel. It's not a modern kitchen, it's a typical African kitchen that makes a fire with charcoal. There, I cook Ugandan traditional food with my teacher while being carefully explained about the food. We do a variety of dishes carefully, such as using banana peels, baking chabati (bread) from dough, and slow stew. During cooking, not only the teacher but also the teacher's family came to visit and enjoyed cooking while chatting with everyone. When the food is done, they prepare a large table in the garden where teachers and relatives gather to chat and enjoy the meal. It teaches us a lot about Uganda as well as cooking. The amount of food was too much to eat, it was my first African dish and it was very good. I think it will take about three and a half hours, but if you don't have time, you can participate in it by about two and a half hours. We had a little girl, so it took over four hours. At the end of the tour, I had a taxi arranged for me at the right price. Of course, couples and friends can enjoy it, but I think children over the age of three can enjoy it with their children. My four-year-old daughter was also really enjoying it. I think I would enjoy it more if I could speak English, but I think I can participate even if I can't speak English. It was still like a new cooking class, and it seemed like there was still no overlap with other customers. This time, I had such a wonderful experience with the teachers and their families. The next time I come to Uganda, I would like to stay at the Sunflower Hotel here and participate in two cooking classes in the morning and evening.

We booked this cooking class at the last minute and it was one of the highlights of our trip to Uganda! Sylvia walked us to the market where we selected some fresh foods for the meal we would prepare together. Several of Sylvia's family members joined us in her outdoor kitchen, and taught us how to prepare some traditional Ugandan dishes. When the food was ready we all sat around the table in her yard and ate together. Sylvia was the most gracious host and teacher, and we absolutely loved our time with her and her family. I would definitely recommend this as something to do if you have time in Entebbe! We hope to return again one day!

This experience was AMAZING! I gained another family😍. Ms. Sylvia and Hellen are extremely nice people. She also had her friend and nephew present to assist as well. The food was great! The time spent was great! It started raining heavily when I arrived, but the class continued without interruption. It was amazing to see how others cook without the traditional appliances we have in the states! It was a rite of passage basically. I felt so welcomed. We cooked, ate and danced.....3 of my favorite things to do. The weather eventually cleared up and the rest of my time there was SUUUUUUNSHINE! We took a quick trip yo the market after we cookedbut before we ate. I was able to get a fruit that I have been craving for the past year. I wish we had it where I live. I would recommend this experience to any local or visitor. P.S. I am a professional chapati maker now lol.
