Want a glowing and unforgettable night? This Bio-Bay Kayak Tour is what you need!
On this tour, you will cross a canal inside the nature reserve that is surrounded by various types of mangroves. This protects from strong winds and helps you to paddle easily in peaceful waters.
The best part of this tour is to enjoy the incredible glittering water of the "Big Lagoon"! Tiny bioluminescent organisms called "pyrodiniums bahamenses" are the responsible for this wonder of nature. They produce blue-green light from top to bottom of this bay every time you touch or move the water with your kayak!

Maximum weight per person is 245 pounds. For safety reasons, customers will be weighed at check-in.
Bioluminescent is a beautiful experience and with or without moon we could use a tarp.
Kayaks are double (2 people per kayak). Odd numbers groups will be paired with another person on the tour. Single kayaks cannot be guaranteed to odd numbers. Children will only be assigned with their parents or family member of the same party.
All participants must be able to row the kayak and complete the tour.
Participants under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or with any type of misconduct won't be allowed.
The Bioluminescent effect is a natural phenomenon that varies continuously and cannot be predicted nor 100% guaranteed.

Our experienced guides will show you the wonders of the natural reserve, including paddling between a mangrove canal and getting to the bioluminescent bay. Once at the bay the guides will detailed explain you the ecosystem and all the surroundings.

5.00One of the reasons we came to Puerto Rico was to experience the Bio Bays. We had a great time with Williams, Lewis, Jensen and Jonathan—they made the experience fun for our big group. They gave good safety instructions and we felt safe the whole time.

5.00We had a great time with Louis, Williams Jensen and Jonathan. The bioluminescence wasn’t as eight as we’d hoped, but we were able to see it and had a really fun kayak adventure there and back.

4.00First, you will endure some arduous kayaking against current. There should be at least one physically able person in each kayak. It will be in the dark. First, in an open sea, then in a narrow passage with many turns. There will be small fish and shrimp jumping out of the water, as well as some bats. Then you arrive at a very big lagoon. The water doesn't seem to have any luminiscence at first. Then you put your hand in the water, and you see it emits sparks! Kayaking back is much easier since its along the current.

4.00Very well organized and clear instructions. Safety seemed to be important and I felt comfortable as an occasional kayaker. My daughter and I did tip over but the crew handled it well, got us back in the kayak and we continued with no problem 😊. In our defense we are used to deeper kayaks with a bit more stability! Lol. The bioluminescent piece was marginal but with a environmental water quality/microbiology background, I knew the actual viewing would be dependent on factors out of the tour's control. Still, I was able to see some sparkle and the jellyfish lumenesence was cool. Overall a very enjoyable experience. Again the organizers and guides were great. Sorry I can't remember thier names!

5.00We had a great time! Unfortunately the bioluminescence wasn't very strong, however the crew were able to catch some moon jelly's that were really fun to look at. The crew definitely made the experience.

5.00At first we weren’t going to book the bioluminescent tour but then a few days before our trip we decided to. So glad we did, this your did not disappoint. Our guides were great. It was all our first time every kayaking! My daughter (12) was extremely scared because it was dark and we were in the kayak very close to the water. We saw iguanas and jelly fish along the way. One of our guides (William) was amazing and made my daughter feel safe. I appreciate him for that so much! If anyone in your party if afraid of the dark I wouldn’t recommend this activity. But if you’re up for an amazing adventure, that creates a new definition of OUTSIDE - book immediately. Thank you to all of our tour guides. You guys were amazing! -Loclanie

5.00This is a must-do experience in Puerto Rico! Luis was very helpful and attentive when checking us in and made sure to answer any questions we had. There were four tour guides on our trip- William, Jose, Jason, and Julio. They were very experienced and made us feel safe the entire time by having one in the front of the group, one in the back, and two in the middle to keep an eye on each kayak. It was very well organized and the safety features as well as general kayaking tips were explained in a way that made us confident and comfortable. Although they could not control how bright the glow from the bioluminescent algae was, they were sure to give us ample opportunity to experience the effect by pointing out the best techniques and locations to see it. They even brought tarps to cover the group with so the effect could be seen to an even greater degree. Snacks and water were provided upon our return. I would definitely recommend this experience with Yokahú Kayak Trips to anyone!
