Punta Tombo Penguin Experience it's our most wanted tour, and the penguins are here from September to April each season.

Depending on availability, tours to Punta Tombo can be combined with other exciting destinations:

Punta Tombo

The Punta Tombo Protected Area was created as such in 1979, has a total extension of 210 ha and can be visited from September to April. The coast is considered an intangible area and during the month of February we will find it populated with youngsters practicing swimming especially in the small pools that the tide leaves when retiring. Leaving Puerto Madryn, to the south, on National Route No. 3, and after traveling about 190 km on pavement and gravel, we will arrive at Punta Tombo, the largest continental reserve of Magellanic Penguins (Spheniscus magallanicus). This incredible place is home to tens of thousands of Magellanic penguins, which every year since September arrive to nest and have their young. To observe the fauna it is important to respect the paths perfectly traced to travel.

Wonderful trip. Pierre was very knowledgeable about the region and wildlife, and super helpful with a family member that was only able to walk part of the way. The penguin rookery is not to be missed. Take the guide’s advice and walk all the way to the end immediately, and then take your time and your pictures in the way back. We enjoyed peace and quiet and greeted the throng of other cruise guests as we departed.

It was two days of touring with my husband (and mother-in-law 🥺) and our guide Pierre Roux stopped by to pick us up very friendly both days. He is French but speaks very good English and Spanish 🥹 On the first day we went to Punta Tombó and he knows many things about the road, cities/towns, industry and animals. The road from Puerto Madryn to Tombó is a bit long but Pierre kept us very informed about everything we saw along the way, and also stopped me from buying a crescent in Trelew because I was already very hungry. We saw the baby penguins (mid-December) and all very bonis, we sent postcards from there and had a snack. Then he took us to Gaiman to get to know the village and to the Welsh teahouse ♥️✨ and then back to Madryn. We actually slept a little on the way back but Pierre followed the path. The next day we went to Punta Loma to see the dogs (sea wolves) and they are very nice the babies ✨ and we really liked the experience:)

A truly fantastic tour with a knowledgeable and friendly guide and a professional and pleasant driver. The organization was perfect, and the bus was in excellent condition. We had requested airport pickup, which was easily arranged, allowing us to start our stay in Valdés with a tour right away – thank you so much! Punta Tombo is breathtaking and definitely worth a visit. We highly recommend this tour!

Amazing place to surround yourself with Nature, see penguins, sea wolves, whales. Eat rich. Rest. You have to be surprised by people who live there.-

Long trip but worth it to see penguin colony. Guide & drivers were lovely. Pick up from hotel was a bit late - so don't panic if this happens!

A long day full of impressions - both the long rides on endless gravel roads through the desert area and the wild beaches with first elephant seals and later penguins. And finally historical information about the first inhabitants of Patagonia. Good guide who told a lot along the way

My Punto Tombo tour was very enjoyable. From the moment I was picked up at my accommodations Pierre our guide made sure I was looked after and wanted for nothing. Despite a delay by one guest we were on time throughout. There were sufficient toilet breaks and instructions were clear. Pierre is very knowledgeable about the history and places we visited. He gave equal attention to me even though I was the only English speaker. He even walked with us out to the end of the trail at Punto Tombo. The penguins were delightful and so were the elephant seals. Although I wasn't sure about the Paleontological museum in Trelew, it was worth visiting. Our driver Ruben was great too. The car was clean and comfortable. Thoroughly recommend this tour.
