5.00We stayed at a wonderful small hotel in Las Galeras, Samaná called Villa Serena. Mónica and her whole staff are very attentive to all of their guests. The room was beautiful, but my favorite aspect of it was the balcony with a gorgeous view of the grounds the sea and the pool. I loved falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the ocean waves. And that view is breathtaking! While there is a small beach on the property, it is only a short walk from an idyllic white sand beach with calm, warm transparent waters called La Playita. There I rented a chaise every day at El chiringuito Buena Onda that is run by Ramona and Orlando. They also make excellent drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and Ramona is a great cook! The town of Las Galeras is small, lovely and peaceful. The people are very friendly and kind The only things that I can suggest to improve my hotel stay at Villa Serena would be to provide rubber strips or a bath mat for the slippery porcelain tubs, have at least a few rooms a few rooms with grab bars in the tub and near the toilet for people with leg troubles, and handrails (at least one at each spot) to get up to the pool area, into the pool, and the stairs going down to the beach from the pool. Able bodied people don't think about these things, and I know it is mostly a wellness retreat, but some us us with arthritis also want to be able to enjoy this special place fully. However, all in all, I highly recommend Villa Serena. It lives up to its name and truly is a serene paradise.
