Sanjay Gandhi National Park
Sanjay Gandhi National Park is a 87 km2 (34 sq mi) protected area in Mumbai, Maharashtra State in India. It was established in 1996 with headquarters at Borivali. It is notable as one of the major national parks existing within a metropolis limit and is one of the most visited parks in the world.
Kanheri Caves
The Kanheri Caves in the centre of the park were an important Buddhist learning centre and pilgrimage site sculpted by Buddhist monks between the 9th and the 1st centuries BCE. They were chiselled out of a massive basaltic rock outcropping.

5.00As a foreigner, it was great to go with Mehull because he took care of everything for us and also explained along the way. He knew so much and was very happy to share his knowledge with us. Do note that the main focus of this tour are the caves. The safari is short and there is no hiking in the park.

Our two guides provided by the company were truly fantastic—knowledgeable, professional, and incredibly engaging. They went above and beyond to ensure our visit was smooth and informative, making the natural beauty and history of the park come alive. A major highlight of our day was exploring the Kanheri Caves. The historical significance and unique architecture of the caves were breathtaking, and our guides did an exceptional job explaining the Buddhist heritage and the history of the site. 5.00A wonderful experience of a terrific Indian Park with experience of nature with exceptional diversity of plants and trees, wild animals - Lions and tigers in extensive habitats, with h mischievous little monkeys roaming around. very much appt the fascinating Buddhist caves and learning about their practices- along with a visit to an outdoor Jain temple with detailed information about their practices and beliefs. Just a wonderful day with 2 terrific guides! Exceptional experience

5.00Mehul was our guide for the day, and he was fantastic! He was extremely smart and knowledgeable, and was able to answer all of our questions. When he found out that we were as interested in natural history as the archeology of the caves, he adjusted the tour to spent time on the flora and fauna of the park - if we had more time in Mumbai, we would have hired him for a separate nature walk! The experience was one of our favorite parts of our trip.
What an amazing place. Pictures don’t do it justice, you have to visit and this tour company and guide were fantastic.

5.00I can highly recommend this tour. From the moment I made the booking communication was great. I was picked up from my hotel by a very friendly driver and then we met the guide, Mehul at the SGNP. I could have spent many more hours at the caves and walked more of the trail. I strongly recommend asking for Mehul who was so knowledgeable about the site, history, stories, the wildlife and the vegetation. The whole tour was even better with Mehul as a guide. He was such an ingesting person and wonderful to spend time with. We were lucky enough to see a roaming tiger as part of the lion/tiger safari and the visit to the Jain temple was great too. If going again I would book with Young Tours and Travel and request Mehul.

5.00From hotel pickup to drop-off, this tour was flawless. Aadil, main guide coordinated everything seamlessly, and the air-conditioned car was spotless. At Sanjay Gandhi National Park, I met Kishore, whose deep knowledge of the Kanheri Caves and Jain Temple was outstanding. Aadil who was equally knowledgeable stayed throughout and personally guided me at the breathtaking Golden Pagoda. Both were friendly, informative, and eager to answer questions and help with photos. Their passion and professionalism made the experience unforgettable. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a well-organized, insightful cultural tour.

5.00This was such an informative and delightful tour. We got to go outside and see the Buddhist caves. Our guides Kishore and Hardik were so well versed and informative . They take pride in their work. We also got to see some greenery and wildlife as well. Do this tour!

5.00Although it was raining when I visited the Sanjay Ghandi national park and the global vipassana pagoda, the sightseeing with Hardik (a guide of the day) was such an insightful and comfortable time. The Kanheri caves and the view of the foggy forest from the cave were peaceful and great. The air on the top of the hill were clear and fresh. Although I was soaked on knee high in the water from the waterfall because of the rain, I made to the higher caves of merchant’s’ with help of the park’s guide, Kishore (sorry if spelling is wrong), it was grateful to be there. Kishore has knowledge and understanding of the Buddhist religion and told me a lot of interesting small stories about the religion, caves, and ancient Mumbai city, which reminds me a lot of stories about Buddha I have learned when had been a child. After the park, Hardik and I had a plenty of waiting time at the ferry port to pagoda, so I requested Hardik to take me to a restaurant where was a casual place to eat delicious veggie food. The bills are of course, paid from out of my pocket (not including in the tour fees), but if you have extra money and time, eating something around there with Hardik recommendation is worth.
