Sibiu presents itself as a true cultural capital of Romania, appealing to the tourists due to its medieval charm, its local gastronomy and traditions and to its natural landscape. Our trip will start in the Old city Center -in the middle of the Big Square, at the old fountain. The buildings surrounding this market are all historical monuments, each of it having its own story and specific architecture. From the Big Square we will pass, through a small passage under the Council Tower, to the Small Square, another meeting place for the locals and for the tourists. Living the old city, we will descend in the lower town and we will follow a cycling path toward the green are of the city to reach the biggest open-air museum in Romania â Astra Ethnographic Museum. This place is hosting various original traditional houses from all over Romania, old crafts and decorations from Transylvania. The open air museum is also hosting two traditional restaurants, a good opportunity to chat with your guide about the places you just visited. Back to the Old city center, we will end the tour in the same place, near the old fountain of the citadel. The tours include guidance, assistance and a refreshing drink. The tour can be customized based on your request and based on the sights you want to visit. Main highlights: • The Big Square and its attractions: The Catholic Church, Brukenthal Museum, the City Hall • The Small Square • Huet Square (including the Evangelic Cathedral) • The Bridge of Lies • The Tours Street, with few of the old defending towers and the defending Middle Age wall) • The Hunting Museum (optional visit after the tour) • Sub Arini Park - one of the oldest urban parks in Romania (19th Century) • Astra Ethnographic Open air Museum â optional lunch inside the Museum

I cycled the Medieval Transylvania route solo with the support of CarpatBike. Great welcome, comprehensive travel notes and verbal information and a great Canondale bike (well serviced, all spares available and cycle panniers supplied). The daily routes (with accurate GPX files) were interesting and with diverse scenery. The routes were mainly on small quiet roads with only a few stretches of busier roads. Trip notes highlighted good places to stop for cultural visits, lunch and dinner. Oana helped book ahead at 2 places for lunch. The accommodation was fantastic (never been on a cycle holiday with such amazing accommodation before) - in castles and guesthouses. The proprietors were all kind, helpful and keen to explain local history. Baggage transfer was efficient and easy. I've done many cycle holidays (in groups and solo) but this is one of the best! Definately plan to go back to Romania for further cycle adventures. Thank you so much - especially to Oana who was amazing.
