Kampong Phluk Floating Village

The floating villages at Tonle Sap Lake are becoming some thing of an curiosity for visitors going to Siem Reap. The fascination with folks who reside in floating houses, travel to floating schools and try to eat at floating restaurants is quite an appeal for the many visitors that come to Cambodia. As well as the floating villages, additionally, there are stilted villages along the banks of Tonle Sap Lake, where houses and buildings rest on high, thin stilts that keep the occupants dry during the wet season, with large ladders to reach the lower levels during the dry season. Kampong Phluk, which literally means “harbour of the tusks”, is actually 3 villages, with mainly stilted houses, that line the main entrance to the Tonle Sap Lake from this area. The community sustain themselves mainly on catching fish and shrimp, but also harvest some land crops during the dry season. There are some activity for Tourist to visit this village such as walking through village or take small boat ride to the jungle of Mangrove Tree.

Guide Nan, driver Ratta and arranger Nai were all a pleasure for this trip. Nan shared his extensive knowledge of the sites we visited and put up with our constant questions about Cambodia. Although we visited during the period where the village was not "floating" we still had an excellent time.

Mr theara is a funny and easy going guy. We booked his service from 23/10 to 26/10. For the first day he got his niece to pick us from airport then check in hotel and we went for a sunset cruise. He managed to arrange a private cruise for us, it is such a great time we spent there. Next day we travel from Phnom Penh to siem reap and he met us there. He brought us to floating village and at first we thought we will miss the sunset but he manage to let us see the sunset during the boat riding. Really super nice view! The next day we went to Angkor wat and he help us took lot of nice pictures! He is super good in taking photo. Also he explain the history of Angkor wat… night time he brought us for a nice meal at local street.. love it! Overall we love his service and strongly recommend him to others who will want to travel to Cambodia!
