Being able to snorkel in the Silfra fissure is a privilege that mother nature literally opened up for us. Silfra is a big 'crack' in the ground located in Thingvellir on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge formed as two tectonic plates move apart from each other.
The benefits of choosing the wetsuit option is you can dive down and have the most unique perspective, seeing above and below the water. This choice is popular for scuba divers who do not have the required certifications for the scuba dive. If you're not a confident swimmer then the drysuit can be a better option.
Prior experience snorkeling/ diving will help you greatly to dive down but is not necessary. You can book the drysuit option on another listing for you or other people in your group for the same time tour.
We always have small groups, 6 people per guide. This allows for a more closer and personal feel. If you have a group of 7 or more you can be together preparing your equipment but in the water some of you will be separate.

Bring a swimsuit and a towel
Minimum age is 12 years, please reach out regarding younger participants & Participants over the age of 65 need to get a physicians approval
Be at minimum 150cm (4’9) tall / maximum 200cm (6’7) tall, and be at minimum 50kg (99 lbs) / maximum 120kg (264 lbs)
Don't wear glasses, instead bring contact lenses or your own prescription mask (if you have one)
Recommended to bring a change of clothes (the drysuit has a very small chance of leaking)
Please dress according to weather - no heal or jeans
All participants heights, weights and age must be provided to local operator. If you do not provide at time of booking, please contact supplier immediately after booking to provide this information
Please note that that dry suits can sometimes feel quite tight and constricting, especially around the neck and wrists
We recommend wearing long thermal underwear and thick wool socks a a base layer under the drysuit
All participants will need to fill out a medical form before participating in the tour. Please find a link to the medical statement on your ticket voucher right after booking the experience to be sure if you qualify.
Note: Each guide can assist one group of up to six participants at a time. Up to three different groups can be present during this activity.

The location of Silfra, where the snorkeling takes place, is within Thingvellir National park. Passengers, while driving through, get a chance to view some of the beautiful nature the national park has to offer
Heading out from your Reykjavík accommodation to Silfra takes about 45 minutes. After greeting your certified guide, you'll get a briefing on the tour and what to expect. Upon arrival, you'll gear up, listen to a safety overview, and head into the glacially flooded fissure known as Silfra. You'll spend around 30–40 minutes in the water before exiting and walking back around 5 minutes walk. You'll then get a chance of warming up with a well earned hot chocolate. We’ll take photos during the snorkeling. Typically 40–100 images, depending on group size and skill level. The photos will be available for download a few days later free of charge. For the wetsuit option, just wear your swimsuit underneath. We recommend bringing thick (preferably wool) socks to help keep your feet warm while snorkeling. We’re the only company offering both wetsuit and drysuit options. This means members of your group can book in wetsuits or drysuits and you will still be in the same group in the water.

4.00Guide was Nebos and he was amazing! I have always snorkled in warm waters and it was my first time in extreme cold water. It was both exhilarating and not for the light hearted. Although I have swimming experience and love open ocean bodyboarding, this was very eye opening. I did struggle a few times after the start and Nebos was very helpful in making sure I was okay and made sure I was feeling okay and ensured me everything would be alright. His patience helped me calm down and continue to enjoy the spectacular views underwater

4.00I'm glad I did this, it's a cool thing to do and there's nowhere else in the world that you can. But - it's truly so cold! In winter, you need a dry suit (the wetsuit wasn't on the table when I got there), and dry suits are pretty uncomfortable. And there's not a lot to see once you're in the water. However, as a bucket list, once in a lifetime experience, absolutely worth doing and I would recommend.

This event made me love snorkeling! Snorkeling for the first time in my life is perfect, and it's really meaningful across two continents.

5.00This was easily one of the most interesting and fun experiences I have had. Our guide, Grétar, was great! He was knowledgeable, helpful, fun to speak with and a great help in the water. I chose to use a wetsuit and asked him to help instruct me to dive and take pictures and he was more than helpful and accommodating. The oictures i received are amazing too, he did a great job. I highly recommend booking this experience, and choose Adventure Vikings simply for the Wetsuit option. 100% worth it. Your feet will get cold, but the rest of you is so insulated I was surprised at how warm I was. Overall, great experience, fantastic guide, well worth the trip!

Though I started out calm and confident (having snorkeled in the Maldives before), I panicked when water entered my mask and completely forgot the guide's instructions. Thankfully, our guide Doris was amazing - she calmed me down, stayed by my side, and continue to take pictures for me to let me enjoy the tour. Later, my legs gave out near the end because I was simply too tired to kick anymore. She even pulled me the rest of the way so I could finish the experience safely and with dignity. Thanks to her patience, care, and professionalism, I not only completed the tour, but walked away feeling incredibly grateful. Thank Doris from the bottom of my heart for saving my life. I won’t be able to write a good review until I came back to Taiwan in Oct. Even in the cold winter, you can also enjoy the Silfra snorkeling tour with Doris. She will be there for you. 5.00Gretar was a wonderful guide. The company and website booking were alright, there was an issue with what locations were listed and thus selected, but they were not accurate and needed to change where I could actually be picked up based on the list. Overall experience with Adventure Vikings/Gretar was great. I was the only one in the group using a wetsuit and I selected AV because of this possibility. It was FANTASTIC and I highly recommend it! So much better than just floating in a drysuit and the wetsuit was perfect for the temp.

5.00We took the Silfra diving tour with Dory and it was great. She had interesting facts to share throughout the dive, was informative, and even gave us recommendations for other things to do in the area/during our trip. The dive itself was super cool — got to see some beautiful sites. Compared to other tour companies who were also entering the water, our group was by far the smallest!
Pick up from Reykjavík, 50 min ride to Silfra and the most amazing snorkelling between two tectonic plates! Dream-like!

5.00I had a really magical time on this tour! Wilmar is an expert and could answer everyone's questions, kept everyone together even when we were swimming at different paces, and did such a fantastic job with photos. You stay warm even in winter in the gear, although your face will be cold! This is a once in lifetime experience and I highly recommend!
