I think our leader,Vivian, did the best she could with what she had to work with, but the market experience was underwhelming and quite disappointing. Many vendors not open and mostly an elderly neighborhood. While the specific vendors we stopped at for a chat were engaging, most of the market was quiet and unengaging. So the market experience was definitely not satisfactory. Vivian was enthusiastic and a good teacher but the food prep and cooking took way too long. I think she tried to plan the perfect meal and it ended up taking too long for my friend and me. And while it was interesting learning how to prep and cook, the end result was rather bland and didn’t have a lot of taste. The food prep and cooking areas were in the back room of a bicycle tour shop so didn’t lend itself to a special environment for this experience. Stools were in short supply so after standing for an hour and a half prepping and cooking, I was pretty exhausted. I appreciate Vivian’s efforts and sincerity in trying to provide a meaningful experience. She just didn’t have enough to work with in terms of the market and culinary environments.

Fantastic experience! We thoroughly enjoyed the history lesson told through food. The instruction was great, the markets were interesting, very friendly, and highly recommend. We will probably do it again next time we are in Singapore!

Lovely experience! Honestly I tried chicken and rice at a hawker and the chatterbox and I couldn't understand the hype behind it until this one. The rices, chicken and sauce we made are so flavorful! I can't wait to take the recipe back to the US and cook it for my toddler! It was also really nice to see everyday Singaporeans away from the glitz

We had a nice wet market tour and the opportunity to have toast for breakfast. We tried some snacks at the local food market. We made four dishes including shrimp rolls, chicken, rice and a dessert. Our our guide was very nice, and knowledgeable.

We all thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Vivian was so knowledgable, but also such a warm, friendly person. The visit to the local wet-market was an excellent way to start, and very informative. Then we all took part in the cooking processes, and, of course the eating! Delicious!
