On this walking tour, we cast our minds back more than 200 years to a time when Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles of the British East India Company arrived in Singapore, started a British trading post in 1819, became part of the Straits Settlements in 1826, and eventually a separate colony of the British crown in 1867.
We’ll visit well-preserved structures from the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian eras, and stately neo-classical style buildings, which have all been restored to showcase the splendour of Colonial Singapore.
We pay tribute to our former colonial masters who left behind their legacy of careful town planning, sound legal system, good education system, solid infrastructure, impressive architecture, etc, which have certainly played a significant part in the development of modern Singapore.
At about midday, we’ll kick back and enjoy lunch by the Singapore River at Boat Quay, before we resume our tour of the Civic District and Old European Town.

Our story begins with how the British started their trading post in Singapore in 1819, where the early European settlers built their homes, and how the first Anglican church came to be constructed in 1836.
National Gallery Singapore
We explore the 2 colonial buildings which now make up the National Gallery Singapore, namely the Former Municipal Building (later renamed City Hall Building) and the Former Supreme Court Building. Step into the chamber where Lord Louis Mountbatten accepted the surrender of the Japanese on 12 September 1945, the holding cells of the former Supreme Court, etc.

5.00Highly recommended tour for everyone. It provides a very interesting introduction to Singapore’s history, government, economy and culture whilst visiting important landmarks and buildings. Our guide, Ping, was one of the most personable, organized, knowledgeable persons we have met whose service and narratives reflect her passion for history and her work.

5.00Great tour for anybody interested in history of Singapore and the British Empire. Our guide, Ms. Ping, was knowledgeable, responded eagerly to questions, and was helpful with directions after the tour was over. She also took pictures of the group at several locations which she shared via email. A good lunch (basically Indian) was provided. Be aware that it requires a fair amount of walking, though our group was mostly seniors and we kept up well enough.

5.00Ping, our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the history of Singapore. We walked to many beautiful buildings from Singapore's past and present which we never would have found ourselves. Ping gave us opportunities to get out of the sweltering heat and when outside she made sure to find shady spots. Lunch along the water was a nice break.

5.00My Wife and I wanted to know a little about Singapore so we booked a tour with on a roll tours through Get Your Guide. we met our guide, Ping who is the owner and founder of the business at 10:00 am. We were taken not only to so many interesting sites but her knowledge and historical facts was outstanding. We took a break for lunch we she organised at Boat Quay and then continued on until about 3:00 pm. The tour was outstanding.

5.00I'm a solo traveller from the UK, I only have 1.5 days in Singapore and wanted to maximise my time here. I'm so glad I signed up for this tour. I learnt a lot about Singapore's history, people, culture and architecture. It was a relaxed walking tour; we looked at various buildings from the outside and went into quite a few of them. Ping is extremely knowledgeable, she shared a lot of fascinating stories and insights. It was like hanging around with a very cool history teacher who made things fun and interesting! The lunch was delicious. Unfortunately, it rained after lunch, but Ping knew all the places where we could find shelter from the rain, so it didn't affect the rest of the tour. Bring an umbrella in case it rains! I had signed up for another tour in the evening with Ping. She is so kind and helpful, and gave me suggestions on what I could do. She even showed me how to use the MRT and gave me directions. I've done a lot of travelling and she's the best tour guide I've met! I highly recommend this tour!

5.00Had the very great pleasure this morning to meet Ping and be guided around the colonial part of her much beloved city. The tour included lunch and is a must do event for anyone visiting this beautiful city. Her enthusiasm and genuine sense of pride shone through to make it an exhilarating and very worthwhile tour. 5.00This was my second tour with Ping and it was just great as the first one. Ping is an awesome tour guide and she represents Singapore very well. The tour as a whole was great but the highlight for me was the lunch in the Boat Quay area. I picked an Indian meat dish with garlic naan and it was delicious. It also gave time to sit and talk with individuals from different parts of the world. I highly recommend the tour.

Lunch was delicious, and this tour was well priced for what it included. Recommend this tour and company, communication was prompt and efficient.
