Berkeley Memorial
We will see the Berkeley Memorial, erected in 1883 and dedicated to the memory of Thomas Berkeley Hardtman Berkeley, a legislator and owner of various estates in St. Kitts. The structure contains a clock and drinking fountain. It was designed and produced by George Smith and Co of Glasgow, Scotland.
Independence Square
We will cruise past Independence Square, formerly Pall Mall Square, which was renamed on the 19th September 1983 to commemorate the birth of the new nation of St. Christopher and Nevis. Located on the eastern side of Basseterre bordering the community of Newtown, its' layout was designed to look like a Union Jack. Originally a pasture on the edge of town just east of Fort Street, in its' heyday as Pall Mall Square, the space found life as a market and gathering place for the enslaved Africans, offering some reprieve from the rigors of existence on the plantations.

From the moment we met him, he was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional. Don’s knowledge of the island is exceptional — he shared so much history, culture, and local insight that really brought St Kitts to life for us. He took us to some truly breathtaking viewpoints and hidden gems, making sure we never felt rushed and tailoring the tour perfectly to what we wanted to see. His passion for the island really shines through, and it made the whole experience both informative and enjoyable. 5.00We had a wonderful experience with Don! He is incredibly friendly, warm, funny, and knowledgeable, and he made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. He took us all around beautiful Saint Kitts: Bloody Point, Romney Manor, Brimstone Hill Fortress (my kiddo’s favorite!), and even squeezed in a stop at Timothy Hill. Don is a literal wealth of knowledge; he shared the rich history behind every stop and also pointed out important local landmarks along the way, including the airport, colleges, churches, and government buildings. We loved exploring the beautiful island with someone who genuinely loves and understands every inch of it. Don was also prompt and patient, our cruise arrived late and he waited for us without any issue. His warm, personable nature made the tour a highlight of our cruise, and his charm and sense of humor had us laughing nonstop. We also really appreciated that his van had great AC, this was a lifesaver for our cranky kiddo who isn’t used to the heat and made the whole experience much more comfortable for our family. We very highly recommend this private tour. Thank you, Don, for an unforgettable day!

5.00I highly recommend a tour with Don! I had a great day touring the island solo with Don, seeing beautiful as well as historical and important sites and learning about the history of the island. Don is so knowledgeable and so friendly and easy to talk to. A great experience for sure!

5.00Don was an awesome tour guide. He gave great overviews of the history of what we were seeing in a very storytelling kind of way. He has a great sense of humor and our family fit right in with him. Highly recommend for those that want a smaller experience while hitting all of the highlights at St Kitt

5.00Don is quite literally the best taxi driver ever! As a native New Yorker, I’ve interacted with more taxi drivers than I can count, and Don tops them all by far. He is always kind, punctual, and gets you to your destination safe and sound. His prices are very reasonable and he has a van that can fit bigger groups, so perfect for families looking to avoid rental cars and get a dose of Kittitian realness. He was the first taxi driver I met in St. Kitts and was so welcoming that he’s always been my first call since when I need a ride and a laugh. Also, Don is so knowledgeable when it comes to learning about the island; he saved me the embarrassment of mispronouncing “Frigate” in front of other locals. Even my mom absolutely loved him, which, if anyone has a mom like mine, is saying something! His contact is saved in my phone as “The Don” for a reason!!
