When we reach the seashore, ready to surf, we analyze the conditions and establish a point on the water where we will be. Then, we talk about how to stay safe and the right way to move with the board at sea. Let’s move on to theory: we’ll learn to lie down, paddle and climb the board. We practice this on the sand, pretending to catch a wave. Before entering the water, we do a series of stretches and warm-ups to prepare the body. In the water! We focus on making the experience easy and fun, finding the right place and the perfect time to catch the wave. Finally, we review the lesson with feedback to improve in the next session. Mao is really relaxed and attentive. We were a family of 4 (2 boys 5 and 10 years old). He was very good at ensuring our safety, especially that of children. We had a very good course and we surfed several waves. Wow what a great experience!! Mao is the best!! So kind and attentive:))

Mao took me and my son out for a surf lesson and was amazing the whole time. At the end he took the time to help my two younger sons catch a couple waves. He was friendly, funny, and a great teacher. Highly recommend going to him over using one of the cookie cutter surf shops.

Learning to surf with Mao was really good. He explained and showed me everything well from the beginning. He was very responsive to my needs and helped me get to know the sport. I took a new course with him the very next day, and I really enjoyed it. I highly recommend him as a surf instructor.

I had two lessons with Mao and they went great. Super insightful instructor and very helpful for surfers of all ability. I had initially only booked one lesson with him, but ended up booking a second because it was so beneficial and fun.

Mao and Caleb helped our group of first time surfers. They were wonderful! Clear communication, good instruction, and very patient with us. We wish we had one more day in Tamarindo to join them again!

I had an amazing experience with Mao! He was an awesome instructor, very knowledgeable about the area and clearly knows his stuff. I met him while surfing and did two lessons with him. He has a photographer he works with who will shoot photos during as well. He has a great and friendly teaching style, he made my surf trip one to remember and I’ll definitely be returning!

A very great experience. Everyone learned how to surf! The instructor was very helpful and professional. He knew what he was doing and a very effective instructor. I would recommend him to anyone. He even had a photographer available to take pictures and capture our family experience together.
