Taste your way through a selected route in Kalamata. During this 3 hours tour, we will visit the most charming side of Kalamata while popping in and out of selected family shops learning about tastes and traditions of our city. Our local guides are excellent storytellers and they will transport you through time and the history of food. Small samples of regional traditional food and light lunch are included in our tour while you explore non-touristic parts of Kalamata. Spend 3 hours collecting memories and experiences! This tour is provided in English and French (upon request).

The glorious Metropoiltan Church of Kalamata city, where we meet and start tasting our local products. We make our start by giving important information about our ancient food culture and about greek food habits, while starting to explore the historical center of Kalamata, the oldest part of the city of Kalamata.
Kalamata Farmer's Market
The food market of the city, full of aromas, tastes and a big variety of products. This is the spot where locals meet for every week's grocery shopping! We will taste a wide variety of tradional products here, including dairy products, olives, olive oil, etc. , while exploring the secrets of Kalamata's Food Market!

5.00This was our first experience of a food tour and it exceeded our expectations, the communication from our initial enquiry through to the tour itself was excellent in every way. Sofia was very helpful to answer my questions to ensure we booked the best tour for us and Sarah was a great guide in showing and explaining to us much more than just the food. Each of the stops involved information about the history of the business and the families behind them, the tastings were in each area so generous that we could not eat it all!! Nothing was too much trouble and it was a relaxed informal experience which we would highly recommend. We would be very keen to do a bar tour if they can offer this in the future, perhaps learning more about Greek wines in particular would be good!!

5.00We’d heard good things about Kalamata Food Tours, but we didn’t fully know what we were walking into. We’d just survived a harrowing ride from Costa Navarino, we were tired and hungry, and then Sarah met us outside the Metropolitan Church of Ypapanti and everything shifted. She spotted us struggling with street parking and walked us straight to a machine for a pass before we even asked. Small thing, but it set the tone. This was someone who was going to take care of us. Sarah is from Kalamata. She knows everyone. The three hours we spent with her felt less like a tour and more like tagging along with a friend who happens to have the best connections in town. She stopped to greet people on every block, and at each shop she gave us the history: the families, the traditions, how food and faith and community are woven together here in ways you’d never pick up on your own. The stops were extraordinary. A local bakery where we sampled fresh koulouri with the owner. The farmers market, where the spreads of dips, tapenades, olives and figs kept coming and the owner eventually poured us all a shot to toast. A honey shop where we sampled the best lemonade we’ve ever had, just orange blossom honey and fresh lemons, and we are still talking about it. A pork shop that had our whole group completely obsessed. And somehow, after all of that, we finished with gyros and scraped every last bit. The food was exceptional. The market was beautiful, fresh fish everywhere and not a single unpleasant smell. But Sarah is what made it. Her warmth, her knowledge, her photography, and the genuine joy she takes in sharing her city with strangers. Can’t recommend her highly enough.

5.00We had a wonderful food tour with Sara. She is a fantastic guide and full of positive energy. We learned a lot about the local shops and the market, including the great family stories behind these businesses. Sara addressed all of our individual interests, such as the story behind certain graffiti, and provided us with tips for further travel when asked. The food and drinks were very delicious and diverse, and the warning to not eat breakfast beforehand should be taken seriously 😉 Thank you for this amazing experience.... absolutely recommendable!

5.00Sarah was a lovely lady who is a foodie like us. We went round the local Farmers Market (Wed & Sat) and then local shopkeepers, each of which were very welcoming. The food we tasted was superb and Sarah gave us some history along the way. Thoroughly recommend you book this food tour. Thank you Sarah, was lovely to meet you 🏴🇬🇷

5.00Our experience was excellent! Sarah was a fabulous guide and within 30 minutes, I felt like I was walking around Kalamata with a close friend. The restaurants and vendors chosen were excellent and hospitable. Everything we tried was delicious. I would definitely recommend this tour. Be sure to request Sarah as your guide.

5.00This, this you must do this with Sarah. Great local personality that exudes her love for Kalamata food .and culture. We now have a friend for life. There were several stops along the way with 2nd and 3rd generations of businesses. They all had stories to tell about life in Kalamata over the last 100 or so years. Definitely a highlight of or trip to this point.

5.00Sara was a great guide. She was super helpful and very flexible as we dipped into side shops, not officially on the tour. We have been de Greece scores of times and found Kalamata, a very interesting and authentic Greek town. The old traditions of cooking in the area are alive and Sarah will introduce you to them if you go on the store. We loved it.

5.00Our cruise was diverted to Kalamata due a storm in Sicily. We were fortunate to find this tour with Sara as our guide. Our tour was 7 stops (in 3 hours) to local shops where we tasted their wares. Everyone was so friendly and happy to share their expertise! At the end of the tour we had lunch! Overall it was a great experience with the people, culture, and food of Kalamata! Sara was amazing! This is a must do tour!
