  Tio Leo, Cindy and Mirna are fabulous. You feel as if you are visiting old friends. You walk away, tasting everything from coffee, cacao, all the fruits that are there in season. If there is one problem there is so much Rich incredible information that you feel you need to come back again and again to absorb it all. Tio Leo is a national Costa Rican treasure.   Absolutely one of the best tours I’ve taken in Costa Rica! Tio Leo is so passionate about his farm and all that he produces. He has a great sense of humor, is so knowledgeable and truly wants everyone to learn and have an enjoyable time on his tour. The coffee is amazing, the empanada that we each made was delicious, the sugar cane drink was interesting and the chocolate was incredible! At the end of the tour we even got an exfoliating experience with the ground coffee followed by a soothing body lotion. I highly recommend this tour….I am bringing my family when they visit and will do the tour again!

  It was well worth the price of tickets. Tio Leo, himself and his wife, did the tour. We had great time and learned, and sampled a lot, of coffee and cacao. You will leave with a caffeine buzz. The empanada making class was so much fun and tasty. Tour is also great for those older individuals and those with limited mobile, most is seated with only a bit, last 15-20 minutes as walking tour of his orchards, which is wheelchair friendly.   Leo was very knowledgeable in the history and current coffee and chocolate practices. I learned a lot and ate a lot. The kids really enjoyed preparing and eating the cocoa beans

  What an incredible hidden gem! Tio Lio was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about coffee, chocolate, and sugar cane. We especially loved walking the fields and learning about all the different fruits, their medicinal properties, and getting to try them.   I found Tio Leo on a random travel blog when I was searching for worthwhile tour options closer to the coast for my family. As much as we wanted to get to a volcano, we also didn't want to spend 1 of our full days in the car to do so, and Tio Leo did not disappoint! We booked easily online via their website. While I don't think I'd call the experience a "tour" in the traditional sense, it was incredibly informative, we got so much from it, and it was incredibly memorable. Setup more like a classroom style discussion (max 15 participants to keep it personalized, which it was), we covered so much about the history of coffee production and the process (with tastings), we made amazing empanadas (you have to try the homemade salsa picante!), learned about cane sugar as well as chocolate - and got to taste various forms of both for context - and then walked through their entirely organic farm to see everything in action and taste some of the fresh fruit straight from the branches. We were a few weeks too early to see the coffee beans ready for harvest but it did not take away from the experience at all. The whole thing was about 4 hours long total, and for all of that you can't beat the price! In the end, their shop also includes various souvenirs from LOCAL artisans (not imported crap) which were all reasonably priced IMO. Highly recommend.
