Kompong Phluk
Kampong Phluk stands as an authentic Khmer flooded village, with homes elevated 6-8 meters above the riverbed, showcasing generations of settlement. Embark on a scenic boat journey along the river to immerse yourself in the rich lives and cultural tapestry of this unique community. Tonle Sap is Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake, crucial to Cambodia’s ecological and economic landscape. During the monsoon season, the lake’s area expands drastically, making it one of the most productive freshwater ecosystems globally. It plays a vital role in supporting biodiversity, including endangered species like the Mekong giant catfish and providing livelihoods to over a million people through fishing, agriculture, and tourism.
Discover the beauty of Kampong Phluk’s flooded forests by traditional paddle boat. Glide through tall trees rising from the water, creating a calm, magical setting—perfect for nature lovers and anyone eager to experience Cambodia’s stunning scenery up close. This optional activity costs USD 6 / KHR 16,000 per person and is highly recommended. By joining, you’re supporting local village women who paddle the boats and share this enchanting forest with you.

There was no guide or explanation given during this tour. All you are paying for is transportation from the hotel to the location. The park entrance fee is $16 extra cash only (required) which pays for the boat ride. If you want a picture on a kayak it's $6(optional). None of this was explained before. Also the transportation is an hour ride in a tuktuk, returning after dark meant lots of insects in your hair, teeth, eyes, etc. Once you get to the park, you hop on a river boat and cruise through the fishing village. The boat stops at a tourist shop/restaurant where you can eat/drink/buy souvenirs if you wish. Then you continue to the lake (Tonle Sap). Some ladies will pull up on a kayak and try to sell you more stuff. I went for the afternoon excursion and we stayed for a really nice sunset. Then return back to where you were dropped off. Overall it was kind of a tourist trap but still it was interesting to watch the fisherman going out and we got some good pics of the village and sunset. What bothered me was that there was no tour guide, no idea what to expect or what to bring. Plus I don't normally mind riding a TukTuk but this was too far. If you want to see the village, I recommend paying a little extra and get a taxi or Grab
