The Butrint National Park is the most famous attraction in the south of Albania and the UNESCO World Heritage site is the most visited archaeological park in the country. In this guide you can find everything you need to know before visiting Butrint.
On the way back to the city, a short visit around 30 min to Lekursi Castle, build by Sultan Suleiman the Great. A 360o view of all the region around, where your eyes can enjoy a magnificent sight-seen of a big island ( Corfu), a city ( Saranda), a lake ( Butrinti Lake). All in one from the top of this strategic place.
Than a beautiful visit to the natural spring of Blue Eye, a hidden place between the mountains where you can enjoy a magnificent view of transparent water, that still can't be measured how deep it is.(We have to walk for 20 min to reach this place)

The Blue Eye
Albania’s famous Blue Eye (Syri i kaltër) is a water spring and natural phenomenon that each visitor should witness. A popular tourist attraction, the beautiful light turquoise river stuns with its beauty.You’ll first be enchanted by the surrounding dense forest and the beautiful light blue river that flows through this natural paradise. The Blue Eye is located beneath a small metal balcony that was built so you can get a closer look.The Blue Eye is a water spring with extremely light blue water bubbles in a more than 50-metre deep pool. You’ll be mesmerized by how clear the water is, to the point that you’ll be able to see straight to the bottom.Divers have attempted to descend into the Blue Eye to calculate its actual depth but it’s still unclear how far the mysterious hole really goes. (We have to walk by foot for 30 min to reach the destination so take any bottle of water )
If you visit Saranda, you should make a stop at Lëkursi Castle. This fortress construction dates back to the 16th century and is in a square with two round towers sitting diagonally. Its tricky position on a hill of about 300 meters in height and its picturesque views of Saranda, the Butrint Lagoon, and even the island of Corfu make this destination a tourist preference. Besides that, inside the fortress, you will find one of the best-known bars and restaurants in Saranda, which also offers the sunset’s most beautiful view.

5.00We had a wonderful tour in Butrint National Park organized by Mariglen in February. Even though the weather was quite cold, everything was perfectly arranged and very well organized. The best part was that there were not many tourists at that time of year, so we could really enjoy the ancient ruins in peace. Mariglen was very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. He explained the history in a very interesting way and made the experience special despite the chilly temperatures. I highly recommend this tour, especially if you prefer quieter visits without big crowds.

5.00I was hesitant to visit because of the summer heat, but the park is surprisingly shaded, and there's a lovely breeze from the water that keeps things comfortable. The archaeological site is fascinating, with explanations from our guide🙏🏻 Blue eye and the castle was also very nice 👍
For anyone visiting from Corfu — this tour is a must!

4.00We did not get to the Blue Eye because it poured when we arrived. The gate keeper refused to let us ride in. What a pity! We went to the ruin, it was well preserved and our driver/guide was very knowledgeable. The grounds were muddy and slippery. Other than having our feet soaked, we enjoyed the tour.

4.00We had a fantastic day exploring with our guide, Lici. He picked us up directly from our villa and dropped us back afterwards, which made the whole experience so convenient. The tour included three wonderful stops: Butrint National Park, the Blue Eye, and a panoramic viewpoint from Lekursi Castle. Lici was extremely knowledgeable and shared lots of fascinating facts at each location. Butrint was stunning, with incredible ruins to explore – though it’s a fairly long walk with some steps, so good trainers are a must. The Blue Eye was absolutely breathtaking, with the clearest, most vibrant water I’ve ever seen. Finally, Lekursi Castle offered spectacular panoramic views – a perfect way to end the tour. A small tip: there aren’t really places to buy food or drinks along the way, so it’s best to bring some snacks and plenty of water. The whole trip took around six hours, door to door, and it was well worth it. Overall, Lici was a fantastic guide – professional, friendly, and informative. Highly recommended!

5.00This was a great tour to see the highlights of Sarande, Albania. We were staying in Corfu and took the ferry over in the morning to meet our guide. Klajdi was great. He communicated with me about meeting at the port and how to find him. The tour was wonderful and he provided a lot of information for us at each stop and especially for the walk through Butrint. Highly recommend!
