Experience the best of the city with a local host on this intermediate-level combined walking and canal tour by Go Like a Local. Discover top sights, hidden gems & enjoy a 25-minute harbor ferry ride, ending with the Changing of the Guards at the royal palace.
Note: This walking tour requires a steady pace and is not suitable for those with walking difficulties.
We begin with a 1-hour walk before boarding the electric harbor ferry, (if it´s not full). Your host shares stories, and tips as we glide through the city’s waterways.
After the ferry, we continue on foot, passing the 1600s fortress and the Little Mermaid. A short café stop offers time to rest before reaching Amalienborg Palace.
The 9:00 & 09:30 AM tours finish with the full Changing of the Guards at noon. Later departures include a smaller version of the ceremony.
If the ferry is full or out of service (rare, mostly weekends), we follow the scenic canal route on foot instead, covering the full itinerary with 2 extra km.

From the outside, you’ll get a glimpse of the historic entrance and ornate pavilions, and I’ll share the fascinating story of how Tivoli inspired Walt Disney to create Disneyland after his visit here in the 1950s. 5.00My walking tour of Copenhagen guide was the kind you hope for: local, authentic, friendly and full of stories. It makes a difference when the person seems to enjoy being there with you. With a long local history, Kim was able to share some of his own very relevant experiences such as pointing out a house he lived in as a soldier. We covered much of the city, but a highlight was the Danish version of the royal changing of the guard. I recommend this tour on your first day to orient yourself in the city. You won’t go in many places such as museums on the tour but you’ll have a good feel for where you want to spend your time later.

5.00Our local guide, Kim, was so knowledgeable and friendly. He took us to more than a dozen Copenhagen sites. It was a great introduction to the city that allowed us to see where we wanted to spend more time. The ferry ride in the canal was a major highlight.

4.00The tour guide was very knowledgeable and provided a great review of the city. He showed us many hightlights. There was a considerable amount of walking involved (in which we were aware of before the tour). But we were really looking forward to the canal part of the tour to allow us (older folks) to have a little time to sit. But that part was taken off because we would've had to wait for the next boat. Also, that part was part of why we wanted to take this tour! And that was what we paid for.
