Garni temple, one of the most famous historical and architectural monuments among tourists, is located in Kotayk province. It is the only structure preserved in Armenia from the pagan period, dedicated to the god Mihr.
Before reaching the temple, we will have a stop on the way to Charents Arch, from where a wonderful view of Mount Ararat opens.
Then we will visit Geghard Monastery (Ayrivank), where according to the legend, from the XIII century the spear with which Christ was pierced was kept here.
As a part of the tour, we will visit the Azat River gorge, where we will see the “Symphony of Stones՛”, a miracle of nature. The natural monument, also known as the ՛՛Basalt Organ՛՛, is famous for its magnificent, seemingly artificial rocks.

Charent's Arch
While passing through the village of Voghjaberd, the architect Rafael Israelyan often noticed that a wonderful view of Mount Ararat opens from the nearby hill. And here, in 1957, Israelyan completed the structure he designed, which is called the Mount Ararat Temple. The last line of Yeghishe Charents's poem is engraved in visible large letters on the front entrance. "Go to the world; there is no white peak like Ararat, like the path of unripe glory; I love my Masis mountain." Very soon the place got its new, popular and more widespread name - The Arch of Charents. We start the tour with the viewpoint of Mount Ararat, the symbol of Armenia.
The Monastery of Geghard
Geghard Monastery is a medieval monastery in the Kotayk province, being partially carved out of the adjacent mountain, surrounded by cliffs. The name commonly used for the monastery today, Geghard, or more fully Geghardavank, meaning “the Monastery of the Spear”, originates from the spear which had wounded Jesus at the Crucifixion. It is believed, that the spear was brought to Armenia by Apostle Jude, called here Thaddeus, and stored amongst many other relics. Now it is displayed in the Echmiadzin treasury. The monastery complex is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with enhanced protection status.

I think it’s simply a must do in Yerevan to see what this tour is proposing. On top the breathless locations, I greet and celebrate the passion of Yevor and his team for the explanation of history and folklore. Highly recommended.

During our visit to Armenia, one of the most memorable experiences my family and I had was a day trip from Yerevan that combined history, nature, and local traditions. The tour included several famous landmarks and even a hands-on cultural activity, which made the day feel both educational and fun for everyone. Our journey began with a drive out of Yerevan toward the ancient Garni Temple. The temple stands dramatically on a plateau overlooking a deep gorge, and seeing it in person was impressive. The structure looks very different from most Armenian religious buildings because it reflects classical Greco Roman architecture. Walking around the columns and taking in the wide mountain views was a great start to the day. My family enjoyed taking photos and imagining what life might have been like when the temple was originally built centuries ago. From there we continued to the nearby Geghard Monastery. The atmosphere here felt completely different. Parts of the monastery are carved directly into the mountain rock, which gives the whole place a mysterious and spiritual feeling. Inside the stone chambers the acoustics were incredible. At one point a few visitors softly sang a hymn, and the sound echoed beautifully through the walls. It was one of those quiet moments where everyone just stopped and appreciated the setting. Next we visited the remarkable natural formation known as the Symphony of Stones. The towering hexagonal basalt columns looked almost like a giant organ made of stone, which explains the name. Walking along the path at the bottom of the gorge with my family was relaxing, and the scale of the rock formations was even more impressive up close. It felt like nature had created its own architectural masterpiece. One of the highlights of the day was participating in a traditional lavash baking activity. We visited a local home where we learned how to make Lavash. Watching the dough being stretched and then slapped onto the hot walls of the clay oven was fascinating. We even got to try making some ourselves, which was both fun and a little challenging. When the fresh bread came out warm and slightly smoky, we ate it with cheese and herbs. Sharing that simple meal together felt authentic and welcoming. By the end of the day, the trip felt like a perfect mix of history, nature, and culture. Seeing ancient temples and monasteries, walking through dramatic landscapes, and participating in a local tradition gave us a deeper appreciation for Armenia. More importantly, experiencing it all with my family made the memories even more special. It was one of those days where every stop offered something unique, and by the time we returned to Yerevan in the evening, we felt like we had experienced a small but meaningful part of the country’s heritage. 🏛️🏔️🥖

This tour was informative, interesting and excellent value. Hasnik (tour leader) is knowledgeable, articulate and a very nice person too ! Andojan, is a good and steady driver. Lunch stops on tours can be dreadful but Hasnik's choice of restaurant was really good - boiled trout with vegetables sounds uninteresting but it was really 9delicious. In fact, everything looked good, generous and not costly. The stops are well judged and each site was explained in as much detail as each traveller required. Thank you, Hasnik, for an excellent day !
