Pick-up from Medan Kuala Namu airport by private transport with aircon and travel directly to Bukit Lawang (3-4 hours). You will have time to explore the village, visit the bat cave (depending on your arrival time) or relax in the guesthouse for the remainder of the day/evening.

Lunch in the jungle include
Gunung Leuser National Park
After breakfast, your guide will collect you at 8.30am from your guesthouse and you will start your journey into the jungle of Gunung Leuser National Park to see wild orangutans. On your trek (6-7 hours), your guide will educate you on the local wildlife, flora and fauna you may encounter in Gunung Leuser. After lunch, you will continue your trek to see other wildlife (if you’re lucky you may see the Thomas’ leaf monkey, white-handed gibbon, black gibbon, long-tailed macaque, pig-tailed macaque, hornbills, peacocks and monitor lizards) and learn about the trees/plants which can be used in traditional medicine. Late afternoon-on arrivall at river banks , you are free to enjoy the fresh water of the Bohorok river, swim and relax. Later on, you will leave the the river banks by traditional rafting boat (‘jungle style’) following the river downstream to the village and directly to your guesthouse.

After breakfast, start your journey back to Medan (3-4 hours). Time permitting, you will have the opportunity to visit one of Medan’s cultural highlights e.g. Maimun Palace, Great Mosque of Medan, Tjong A Fie’s mansion, Marian Shrine of Annai Velangkanni or Maha Vihara Maitreya Cemara Asri, before being dropped at the airport or your accommodation.

5.00We had the most wonderful experience on the 3 day, 2 night orangutan trek with Sumatra Orangutan Treks. Amat and Azri were absolutely amazing—so knowledgeable, friendly, and always making sure we were safe and comfortable. Seeing orangutans in the wild was truly unforgettable, and the jungle itself was breathtaking. The food was delicious, fresh, and far beyond what we expected in the middle of the rainforest. Sleeping under the canopy with the sounds of nature all around was magical. Everything was so well organised, and the team made the whole adventure fun, memorable, and deeply special. Highly recommend!

5.00Can’t fault this experience. Everything ran so smoothly, our guides Amat and Azri were amazingly knowledgeable and patient and the food was delicious throughout. We were so fortunate to see multiple orangutans and other animals and we loved the jungle taxi river ride at the end. Would highly recommend Sumatra Orangutan Treks to anyone!

5.00We spent 3 amazing days! Total disconnection in the middle of jungle, monkeys and orang outangs! What we have seen, we will never forget! Organization on top! Guides on top! Many thanks to our guides Amed, Janet and Wawan and the whole team!! We ate well, full of good fruit;) To do!!

5.00We had overall such a great experience. Bukit Lawang is a small village, but with a Lovely atmosphere and beautiful nature around. Our accommodation was (especially for the low price) pretty good. The food in the restaurant is delicious as well. We did the 3 days and 2 nights jungle trekking and it was one of the best experiences I ever had. We saw plenty of monkeys everywhere in the jungle. Small Thomas leave monkeys, Pig Tail- and Long Tail Makakes, White handed Gibbon and of course the Orang-Utans. The trekking through the jungle can be rough sometimes, but we often did breaks so we had enough time to rest. In the afternoons we arrived at the campsite. There is no electricity so you need to bring a Powerbank for charging phone and the flashlight. The breakfast, lunch and dinner is prepared by the guides and totally delicious. Also vegetarian meals are possible. Coffee, tea, cookies and fruit are provided as well by the lovely crew. On day 3 we left the jungle by the river riding a rafting boat. That's an awesome way to end the trekking. You can relax in the boat while you look at the huge jungle trees from the river. So I'm glad we made this trip. Thanks to the awesome crew !
