We had an amazing trip led by Gufte, which combined in-depth explanations on history with a better understanding and experience of everyday Turkish life. Gufte and Ogun made sure we were comfortable throughout, going out of their way when we needed something (shoes always break on trips) or hoped to spend more time in an area. While 7 churches in 4 days sounds like a lot, we never felt rushed. At each site, Gufte took the time to explain the historical context, read the letter in Revelations, and give us time to explore at our own pace. Ephesus, Sardis and Laodicea ancient city were spectacular, giving context to phrases in Revelations like being lukewarm, Satan’s throne, and more. We also managed a visit to Pammukele, walking across the thermal springs before touring Hierapolis ancient city. Interspersed between each of the churches were visits to local shops (e.g., rugs, parchment paper, Onyx) that were informative and not too pushy/touristy. The tours ended before dinner each day, giving us time to enjoy the hotels (spa and thermal pools) and explore the local cities (Izmir, Pammukele, Kudadasi). Each of the hotels were comfortable, and provided a new experience also known as Turkish breakfasts each day. We packed in a lot in the 4 days. What I appreciate the most is that it felt like a good friend bringing you around their hometown. You get the best recommendations on food, things to buy, and learn a bit more about your host, the culture and yourselves throughout the process. Thank you Gufte and Ogun, this was an unforgettable trip.

Dear Gufte, thank you so much for the warm Turkish hospitality. Apart from the excellent information and the ability to answer all our historical questions, we enjoyed chatting about many related things (religion/ politics) and talking about issues we hold dear to our hearts. I liked how you read each letter from the Bible at the specific church location, that was very meaningful for me. The timing and driving between locations felt manageable and Ogun (our lovely driver) was very professional and always helpful. For our first night at Izmir, the hotel was very comfortable but it was a little far away from the marina (about 15-20 min walk). Pamukele was a favourite stop for us, walking on the travertine formations was definitely a highlight. We enjoyed walking in the hierapolis - the large space was welcoming and we experienced a lack of crowds at this time of the season. The Kusadesa accomodation was ideal as we were right at the coast, the views were amazing from the rooftop. Each church was unique and had many interesting features- in particular, Sardis and Ephesus were memorable, I think these places came alive for us because you had so much information at your fingertips it made it easy to understand and process all that we were seeing. On top of this, not having to worry about entry tickets /gantry prices and having someone bring us through effortlessly was definitely something we appreciated. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience, we are sure to recommend you to family and friends who want to visit Turkey.
