The experience leader, Carlos, explained some history of the area, the ingredients and helped us make a delicious Basque meal to enjoy with regional cider and wine. Fun, educational and opportunity to meet other travelers who share an interest in cooking.

We had a great time! Carlos is a great teacher! We loved going to the market first and learning about what we were cooking. This alone made it a better experience than the classes that didn't offer it. We made 3 dishes plus Basque cheesecake. All were simple, well taught, and delicious! The cider/wine pairings were delicious. Carlos has a great sense of humor and made it super fun and non stressful even for less experienced cooks in our group. Dining with the other students was alot of fun. Carlos was able to accommodate people with food restrictions. All and all a highlight of our trip!

I thoroughly enjoyed this Basque cooking class. The experience began with a visit to the San Sebastián fish market, where we learned how to select the freshest ingredients and gained insight into the market’s rich history. The instructor was exceptionally knowledgeable, engaging, and kind, making the entire experience both educational and enjoyable. It was also wonderful to meet and cook alongside participants from around the world. A highly recommended experience for anyone interested in Basque culture and cuisine.

Carlos was a fantastic guide and teacher. The trip through the markets to buy the food that we would then cook was very informative and fun. The facility itself was extremely pleasant and made it easy for us to all participate. Carlos‘s instructions were very knowledgeable and done with care for each of us (I don’t eat red meat and he made sure to buy some extraordinary Chanterelle mushrooms, which he then instructed me how to prepare). His presentations were always joyful, and educational so that we were entertained while we learned to cook Basque style. We would recommend this to anyone interested in cooking who visits San Sebastian.

The market visit was so very informative! This information would only be available when shopping with a chef or home cook. The teaching kitchen was beautiful and the chef had a perfect command of English. These traditional fish recipes would not be recipes I would normally attempt. The twist on the cheesecake recipe made it even more simple than my own. Wonderful beverages and friendly world travelers added to the experience.

We had a fabulous time during our Basque Cooking Experience: Market Tour & Hands-On Class! We learned about Basque culture and cuisine, toured the market and learned how to choose fish and meat, and practiced some fundamental cooking techniques. Each course that we prepared was delicious and paired expertly with a local beverage. Carlos was interesting, knowledgable, and supportive, and his staff were friendly and helpful. Such a fun, unique, and interesting experience. Thanks so much for a great morning!
