This shore excursion combines our classic All-in-One Best of Berlin trip with a brief visit to the largest concentration camp near Berlin: Sachsenhausen.

We will pick you up directly at your cruise ship docking in Warnemünde or Rostock, and bring you to Berlin to see the city's essential sites. You will then be driven to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp for an overview of the memorial site.

Please be aware, Sachsenhausen is roughly a one hour drive from Berlin. The tour is organized to minimize time spent on the bus. This is why we visit Sachsenhausen in the afternoon, as it lies on the way back to port. More time, however, is spent on the bus than on our regular Berlin shore excursion.

All of our shore excursions are adjusted to each ship’s docking times and each starts promptly after your vessel’s arrival, returning with plenty of time to spare before its departure. We have been organizing shore excursions for nearly a decade and have never missed a cruise ship’s departure.

This is not an in-depth guided tour of the camp, which can take over two hours but rather a chance to visit a camp as part of your Berlin experience. If you would like a more comprehensive tour of the camp please inquire into our private tours and we can customize an itinerary for you.

This tour does not include a full stop for a sit-down lunch.

This tour will include some walking. Please make sure to bring comfortable footwear, weather appropriate clothing and an umbrella – just in case. You will be able to store your possessions on the bus – the door of the bus will be locked at all times when the driver is not on board.

Please bring some change in EUR for toilet stops, beverages and for lunch. If you do not have any EUR with you, please ask your tour guide in Berlin to arrange for a stop at an ATM – it’s no problem! US dollars are not accepted as legal tender in Germany. Please also note that many restaurants and stores in Berlin only accept cash, not credit cards.

Sachsenhausen was the largest concentration camp in the vicinity of Berlin and one of many camps in a system now synonymous with the atrocities of Nazism. This tour is designed to provide an overview of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp memorial while also showing you Berlin’s essential sites during the time you have ashore. You will be greeted in front of your cruise ship as soon as it docks and shown to a modern, comfortable, air-conditioned bus. Your professional driver will then transfer you through the picturesque flatlands of former East Germany to Berlin. The journey takes approximately three hours.

Our guide was Nick and he joined us at Sachsenhousen. Nick gave detailed explanations, which we really appreciate. We continued into Berlin, after the camp and he kept the same level of depth and professionalism. It was a long day, but indeed one of the most meaningful tours we’ve ever taken.

At the start, at the cruise terminal, we were greeted by the representatives and taken to the bus, which was clean and comfortable. The guide Waleed was amazing.

Waleed was our guide and he was outstanding. He clearly knows the history very deeply and explained everything with so much care. Sachsenhausen is emotionally heavy, but absolutely important to visit. The only small thing is that I wish we had maybe 20 more minutes inside the memorial, although I understand the schedule is tight because of the long drive. Overall, 5 stars without a doubt, and at half the price offered by our cruise ship.

Our guide, I’m so sorry I don’t remember his name, was absolutely wonderful. He was friendly, engaging, and clearly knows Berlin inside and out. He’s been living there for over twenty years, and you could really tell he spoke from experience. Throughout the day, he shared such rich historical background, both at the camp and later as we toured Berlin’s landmarks. It was an intense and deeply moving experience, one of those days that really stays with you. It was a long day and quite a drive from the port, but it was worth every minute. We had a great time and learned so much. Truly a memorable tour!

Nick was an excellent guide. He was knowledgeable about the history of the Sachsenhauen. Visiting this place will not easily be forgotten. Berlin has alot of history to absorb and 1 day is not enough.

Very little (10 minutes) time at the Holocaust museum in Berlin. It was really a restroom stop. I would have appreciated a little less time at the Holocaust Monument and more time at the Museum.

Wonderful day, bus ride was long however the guide was outstanding. Our driver got us everywhere we needed to go in the busy traffic. Guide knew his stuff and was able to give us back ground info that we didn’t know and get. Us into out of the way bathroom stops without line that didn’t charge you to use them.

The tour was ok. I did like experiencing the sights we went too but the tour guide (his name started with a W), made it felt rushed. It would have been nice to have more time at the concentration camp sight and when we had very little free time to shop or grab a bite to eat since it was a long tour. Instead of about 30 minutes they should have at least an hour and half. It would have been nice to have the tour guide have us all close together when he is speaking and not turning in different directions when he was talking and we couldn’t hear him at times. Then at times half of the group was where we were supposed to meet and then he had to go and get the rest of the group. Then they didn’t have the ac on for part of the drive and it was hot. At times he talked to fast and it would have been nice to slow down a little. We had to ask them to turn the ac on.

Our tour of Sachsenhausen and Berlin was fabulous. Our guide Nick was so knowledgeable about the Nazi regime and all of the atrocities that occurred. He used his tablet to show the way the places looked back then so it was easier for us to imagine what occurred.
