Had a great experience with Bigboy elephant sanctuary. We did the half day morning where we cut up sugarcane, made vitamin bowls for the elephants, got to know them and get up close. As this is an actual ethical sanctuary there is no touching, feeding by hand, bathing or putting mud on them. Just spectating those amazing creatures up close and then we all made an amazing pad thai together! All in all a great day!

Mr Siu was an incredible tour guide. Very knowledgeable and clearly cared about the elephants. Please visit this sanctuary as it is one of the only actual ethical sanctuaries. It's only been open for about 5 months which is why the reviews are low! All the other ones we've seen are abusive to the elephants. This sanctuary slowly but surely is buying back elephants when they can to allow them to retire comfortably. They have about 5 elephants right now that used to be in other ones where they had to carry logs, be ridden, bathed by people, and 'hooked' if they didn't listen (this is what happens in the other "sanctuaries" if you book them). Mr Siu lives in the village nearby and has dedicated his time with the others to keep these elephants safe and only manage them through food incentive and forming bonds with them. You are not allowed to touch them, but you make their food with Mr Siu, cook your own pas Thai , and then get to feed them and get very close to these beautiful animals. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the driver to and from the location drove aggressively and very dangerously. On the way up, he went right behind a lumbar truck even though there were red flag warnings to stay away. He also was speeding well above the limit and weaving across the lines and almost got us into a collision. On the way back, he made us stop at his home to get fishing supplies, which was unprofessional. The driving made the both of us very nauseous and concerned for our safety (especially since it was a manual van). Please do not let the driving experience deter you from visiting this sanctuary over others, as it is such an amazing space with elephants and other animals roaming around (dogs, chickens, piglets). Even on the way up, we saw another 'sanctuary' walking elephants and they proceeded to hit one sharply with a club when it fell out of line. Please do not go to the other places unless you are 100% sure they are like Big boy. Thank you again Mr Siu, and thank you Big boy sanctuary for taking such amazing care of these elephants 🙏❤️
