Departs Cradle Mountain
The walk begins with a safety briefing at the foot of the Lake. The track is 6km in length, walked in a clockwise direction. This premier walk will offer you some spectacular views of the famous mountain!
The walk will take approximately 4hrs including a lunch stop along the way. The track travels around Dove Lake, passing beneath the mountain, then returns through stunning rainforest to the tour starting point. You will have the opportunity to venture through some of Tasmania's special vegetation found in this area.
A picnic style lunch is included with the tour. This will be issued to you prior to the walk; please ensure you have a suitable bag to take this with you.
It is at the discretion of the tour guide to deny a passenger participation due to the physical demands of the walk. Should this be the case, the passenger will be transferred to participate in the Park Explorer Tour at passengers' own cost.

Experience Cradle Mountains most popular walk with a guided 6km circuit around Dove Lake. A great introductory walk to the park. Enjoy iconic views of Cradle Mountain and walk through the tranquil Ballroom Forest on one of Tasmania’s premier short walks. ABOUT Tour: The duration of the walk is approximately 4hrs including lunch. Grade 3: Some bushwalking experience recommended. Tracks may have short steep hill sections, a rough surface and many steps. Walker safety: Dove Lake | Parks & Wildlife Service Tasmania Weather conditions in Tasmania can change quickly and frequently, especially in alpine areas. Snow, rain, wind and sun are all possible at any time of the year, and bushfires can occur between October and March. Important: please observe all track signs – they are provided for your safety. Always stay on the formed walking tracks, this is both for your own safety and to protect the sensitive alpine environment.

5.00This was a fantastic tour. We ended up being the only people on it so it became like a private tour! This gave Mel our guide a lot of time to tell us all about the area as we drove. She was super knowledgeable about everything from the history of the region to the flora, fauna, and geology. She had great tips on the best walking tracks, which we didn't unfortunately get to, but we will remember them for next time. The highlight was experiencing the quietest rainforest I've ever been to and learning about the Cradle Mountain glaciers and Waldheim homestead. Thanks Mel!

5.00The highlight of our trip was our guide Cathy. Her knowledge and passion for the environment was second to none. We were very fortunate to be the only passengers that morning , so it was like a private tour. We are not hikers so I would highly recommend this tour to give you an excellent overview of the area. The weather was perfect, not a cloud in the sky . An unforgettable experience at Cradle Mountain.

5.00Our guide gave us a good commentary on the area. We had a walk to Dove lake and the a look at Waldheims chalet which was quite interesting plus a short walk behind the chalet. Our guide was happy to answer questions and was very helpful.

5.00What an excellent way to start your visit to Cradle Mountain.Our guided tour with James was full of local knowledge about the area,history and its origin.A couple of short walks included to Glacier Rock at Dove Lake and Waldheim Chalet and lots of advice about other walks/hikes Highly recommended

5.00We only had a limited amount of time in Cradle Mountain, so decided to book the McDermott's Explorer Guided Tour. This was a great way to see the park. Our tour guide James was friendly and knowledgeable. He presented the facts and showed us around in a great way and was very happy to answer questions and go beyond. All in all, a most enjoyable tour

4.00Unfortunately for us it was raining and there was low cloud so we didn’t actually get to see Cradle Mountain. Mel our guide was fantastic though and we enjoyed our personal tour of Dove Lake and the Waldheim Chalet and rain forest. It was quite a miserable day but Mel made it a memorable experience. We will have to visit again on another holiday so we can see the mountain top that is Cradle Mountain.
