Quang Tri Citadel
- 07h30: Our guide and car will pick you up at your hotel in Hue central, then ready to start the DMZ Tour Hue. Visiting places: - Horror Highway: the horrible carnage on Vietnam Highway 1. Thousands of civilians, mostly the elders, women, children, and scores of soldiers were killed by artillery and infantry weapons in hours of shooting. - Long Hung Church: one of the very few existing buildings remains in Quang Tri town during “Fire Summer” or Eastern Offensive in 1972. It is a National Relic in the town of Quang Tri Vietnam – BA5453. - Quang Tri Ancient Citadel: is seen as an eye-witness of fierce battles during the anti-American resistance war in 1972. During the 81-day fighting, the citadel was almost destroyed by thousands of tons of bombs released by the US army. Nowadays, the citadel becomes a place to mark immortal victories of the Vietnamese army and people and to educate youths about the nation’s revolutionary tradition and its patriotism.
Khe Sanh Combat Base
- Continue the journey, we stop to visit: - Dakrong Bridge: the bridge was considered the beginning of the Ho Chi Minh Trail network, and during many years of Vietnam War, this access point was hotly contested. The Dakrong Bridge fell many times. Now it’s a grand suspension bridge, a proud thumbed nose as if to say, “You can’t knock down my bridge anymore.” - On the way, tourists also have chances to meet Paco minority village. - Ta Con Airport: now is the Khe Sanh Combat Base Museum, contains a boneyard of several captured U.S. tanks and aircraft destroyed during the Battle of Khe Sanh. According to the official accounts provided by the museum, 197 U.S. planes were shot down or captured during the 170-day battle. - Free snacks. Enjoy the local Khe Sanh coffee (own expense).

Khanh was the tour leader for this experience of visiting the DMZ and tunnels; and she was excellent. Information was of a standard that was fully relevant, yet not overwhelming. Admission fees were all included, as well as a light lunch. The day was long, but entirely worth the effort of crossing almost the width of the country. The group size was perfect, with nobody being left out of conversations. The convenient pick up and drop off at the hotel was appreciated, and credit to Duy, our driver, who tackled all that was thrown in his path, including a little cheeky police stop. 🤔

A lot of travel, but so so worth it. Our guide was excellent and gave us all the information we needed to understand the history of Vietnam and especially the DMZ.

If you are interested in the history of the wars in Indochina and the reality of Vietnam, this tour will meet all your expectations. Hoa is a guide who guarantees the level of English and knowledge to make this tour an unforgettable experience. Perhaps my only comment would be to remove the word ‘Deluxe’, which I find inappropriate to describe this tour.

Good tour, unfortunately the first half to Khe Sanh was cancelled due to bad weather, we were lucky to get back to Hue due to flooding. In hindsight, the tour should have been cancelled as we felt rushed to get back to Hue as the water was rising rapidly and some roads were flooded. Our guide Ton, was very informative and kept us updated on what was happening.

October 17th 2025 This tour is very informative. The sites we visited gave us a good insight of the American war. The base visit at the Ho Chi Minh trail was a little short, there was not enough time to give the museum and the outside items enough attention. We also asked the guide to send us te pictures made by him of the trip, sorry to say we havent received them yet, even after 2 Whatsapp messages.
