We will hike from Thendele in the Royal National Park into the Gorge. The hike follows the contours of the Tugela river and is spectacular. After approximately 7 kilometres of hiking with good elevation we enter the forest area and you experience the beauty of the amphitheater and the huge cliffs of the Drakensberg. You can swim in the aqua pools, do some bolder hopping or just take the easier route along the cut routes. All routes will be discussed as we go to make sure it suits each clients fitness and experience. Once we reach the last gorge the amount of effort is rewarded with the beautiful rock formations and special colours. For the fit and experienced we can then discuss other options. There are many rock pools in this area and a rest here is welcomed before our track back to the start

This is an incredible hike, and Shane is a wonderful guide who arranged for everything and made sure to go at our speed and pay attention to our ability and level of ability/exhaustion. He was great to spend 24 hours with, and we had a wonderful time.
Trip according tu our expectations.

The landscape is sooo beautiful! The hike into the george offers breathtaking views. Shane is very knowledgeable with flora and fauna, and shares his vast knowledge eagerly. Organization and hotel where we stayed overnight were perfect.

I'm a solo traveler from The Netherlands and I was looking for a professional guide to take me up to the Tugela Gorge. Someone recommended me to go with Shane from AdventureTourism and they couldn't have been more right! Shane is an amazing guide who really knows what he's doing. He is a very friendly and likeable man and he has an incredible knowledge about the mountains and about South Africa overall. The best thing is that he sees how capable you are of doing things and he will adjust the hike to your expierence level and whishes. If you go on a hike with Shane I can promise that you will have a great time in the mountains!

This was just what my adventure starved soul needed after toiling way too long behind a desk! Day 1 started at the very charming Witsieshoek Hotel. The trip on the hotel bakkie to the start of the trail can't be described justly... it has to be experienced! I loved that you took us off the beaten track and up "Shane's Crack" on our way to the amphitheatre and the top of the falls. Your patience and guidance made me grit my teeth and conquer my fear on our way down the chain ladder. Day 2's hike from Thendele along the river gorge with its breathtaking pools and rock formation, and our search for a route to the bottom of the falls made me feel like a modern David Livingstone. I would recommend this trip to any person with an above average fitness level. Thank you, Shane... I will be back.

Shane was an exceptional guide and host. We stayed in Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge with a nice old-style restaurant and bar, for the theater hike. Next morning we went with the hotel's bakkie to the start of the hike (an experience on its own!) Shane took us through the crack( Shane's crack) to the origin of the Tugela river and back via the chain ladder. Next day we stayed at Thendele and hiked to the gorge along the crystal clear Tugela river with its aqua colored splash pools along the way. This was an experience I will never forget and will recommend to every one.

A trip to Drakensberg takes in some stunning scenery. Shane's tour makes it accessible and convenient and should be considered by all who want to take in the natural beauty. Shane was a great guide and kept the tour small and modified the route to best suit my ability. He went out of his way to make the tour a great experience and even returned to me something I left in his transport. Thanks Shane!
