Your tour includes a portable lunch. It consists of a turkey sandwich on organic whole wheat bread, fruit, freshly baked cookie, and water. Vegetarian and gluten free options are available with 48 hours advance notice.
A minimum of 2 people is required for tour to run.
This tour requires a certain amount of walking on uneven and rocky surfaces.
Motorized wheelchairs or scooters cannot be accommodated.

Escape the crowds of Skagway on a small group photography tour in the stunning Chilkat Valley. Your expert photographer guide will assist you in capturing the best of the Chilkat Valley's unique attractions. The trip begins with a 45-minute 100-passenger shuttle catamaran ride along the steep-walled fjord between Skagway and Haines. Your guide has scouted out the best areas for the day's photo shoot. Since this is a exclusive tour, you will be able to work directly with the guide to decide which locations and subject matter you want to focus on. Depending on the lighting and weather, different locations in the Chilkat Valley boast specific photographic highlights. May, June, and July feature wildflowers and bald eagles. Beginning in August, pink salmon begin their run up the Chilkoot River to spawn and brown bear often come down to the river to feed. When bears are present, every effort will be made to give you safe bear viewing and photography. The theme is flexibility, fun and learning. A simple point and shoot camera or smartphone will work, but by all means, bring all your photo gear. You’ll return to Skagway by catamaran.

5.00We booked the Skagway Photography Tour through our cruise company and this was provided by Rainbow Glacier Adventures. Our tour guide was Joe Uchytil. So Joe met us at the pier of our cruise ship. Really great guy. He drove us out through Skagway and up to the Klondike Highway for the photography tour which lasted about 4 hours. The tour was brilliant. In fact it was the highlight of our trip. Joe was so knowledgeable about Skagway and the surrounding area. He was absolutely brilliant. He knew so much about the town and the history of the gold rush and gave us a great commentary as we drove. Joe consulted us regularly on what we might be able to see and asked what we were interested in photographing. He drove us along the Klondike highway, stopping at waterfalls and small lakes along the way. We drove through Fraser, past Log Cabin and ended up at Tutshi Lake which was the furthest point out from Skagway. The scenery was absolutely stunning. Joe did an amazing job finding some truly stunning locations for us to photograph. He also really helped with our photography skills. I was on my Galaxy A16 phone. He showed me several photography options I did not even know about on my phone. My wife was on a new mirrorless camera and Joe really helped with explaining some of the more complex set ups on the camera. He also gave great advice on composing pictures. His recommendations to take some pictures of Tutshi lake with the local Fireweed plants in the foreground have resulted in some of my most beautiful pictures of the entire cruise holiday. Many thanks to Joe for such an amazing tour. It really was a great morning out in the Klondike. Highly recommend this company. Just brilliant.

5.00Joe Uchytil was an outstanding guide! Our time with Joe was the highlight of our trip! His knowledge of the area, combined with his photography expertise made for an breathtaking experience. The “Skagway in Focus: Guided Photography Adventure” excursion, which was an option on our Holland America Alaskan cruise, was simply wonderful. We could see White Pass from downtown Skagway, but it was thrilling to be brought up past it to where the magical glaciers, rivers, lakes, a waterfall (!), adolescent eagles (!!!), gorgeous vistas, and mountains exist. Joe’s knowledge of where to go and techniques to try were superb. I’m a newcomer to photographic techniques, but Joe had some easy tricks for me to try, and he conversed knowledgeably with others who had advanced equipment. Almost a week later, and I’m still coming down from the high I got (no chemicals, I swear!) from this one afternoon. It was amazing!

5.00We loved our tour with Garrett! He was very knowledgeable and patient with all of our questions. We saw 4-5 bears, 8+eagles, surf scoter ducks, salmon and beautiful scenario. It was a beautiful, perfect day in Haines!

5.00My family of 4 had a great experience on this tour. We ended up being the only ones signed up so it felt private and personalized. Garrett was knowledgeable and professional. We learned a lot about the area and we did get to see a bear which was the highlight.

5.00The Photography tour from Skagway into Canada with Mikey was fantastic! My friend and I really enjoyed the tour and got so many beautiful scenery photos. Mikey was very professional, helpful and really helped me take the best photos. We saw and photographed mountain passes, lakes, waterfalls and wildlife. We spent 15 minutes or more photographing a black bear. It was amazing to watch this bear from the safety of our van. This was the best excursion pf the week off our cruise with Royal Carribean. Thanks to Mikey for his excellent tour!

5.00Our guide Joe U. brought us to beautiful stops along the way to learn how to photograph nature, for me using a Nikon DSL and my husband using his iPhone. Both of us learned a great deal and brought back great memories.

5.00Excellent tour with Joe Uchytil this morning. He gave me some great photo tips for using my iPhone, but also readily shared knowledge and ideas with people that had much more sophisticated cameras. He worked hard to get us out there ahead of the tour buses and took us to some pretty magical places.
