Lake Ohrid

Macedonia's side of Lake Ohrid was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979, with the site being extended to also include the cultural and historic area of Ohrid in 1980. In 2010, NASA named one of Titan's lakes after it. In 2014, the Ohrid-Prespa Transboundary Reserve between Albania and North Macedonia was added to UNESCO's World Network of Biosphere Reserves. Albania’s side of Lake Ohrid was also designated UNESCO world heritage status in 2019

Be aware. I contacted through Viator the tour company the day before, as soon as I arrived to Skopje, and I was told that there was no tour planned for the next day, that they would refund my money, or that I could take the tour the next day. I explained that I had only two days in the country and the next day I had a tour to Kosovo. After a lot of stress and giving up my perfect Kosovo trip with another company, I went to Kosovo with them that day and to Ohrid the next. But the Kosovo trip that company had was awful, and I didn’t see Prizren. Not a situation I would like to be in ever again.

Pleasant and fun tour with very likable guides! The historical sites and nature were beautiful and rich with history, and our guides were very knowledgeable and gave us plenty of time to explore the area and have dinner. There’s a lot of interesting things about Ohrid I never knew, from its churches to its ancient lake to even its pearls I saw everything I was curious about. I took this trip in November and the light seasonal rain made for a beautiful and dramatic environment to see Ohrid and its nature.

This was a fantastic tour to an absolutely beautiful place. Bona was a brilliant guide who also provided fascinating historical context and knowledge at various points too. A must do when in Skopje

Lovely day trip from Skopje, which was magical in the autumn. Ohrid is a must for any visit to North Macedonia, and this itinerary did not disappoint. Nikola was professional and very knowledgeable in his presentation. A talented driver, he took great care of us all day long. I highly recommend!

The city is very beautiful, our guide was nice and kind. The trip is 3,5 hours but it is worrh it. Recommend it

It was a long drive, but definitely worth it. Crossing the mountain range with all the autumn colors around was an added bonus. We were lucky to have such a nice sunny October day exploring Ohrid from above and below. It was possible also for people to visit or skip some sights during the walk so there was no pressure for everyone to be interested in the same things.

This was my second Viator day trip. On the last one the bus broke down in Peru at 5,000M leaving us gasping for air for an hour+. This one - yesterday - was in Macedonia and the bus broke down at 1,000M leaving us waiting 3 hours at a gas station. The one in Peru refused to return me to the pickup point until I proved I would just sleep in the bus until they did. So, just No.

I joined this tour as a solo traveller. The group was small and our local tour guide Damir was fantastic. He has an abundance of knowledge about the surrounding area. Full of anecdotes, interesting facts, friendly and easy going. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and we saw so much. It was real value for money and would strongly recommend this tour along with all the other tours i joined in that same weem. Thank you Damir for making my trip truelly memorable and amazing.
