Vardzia

**Vardzia** is a spectacular cave city in southern Georgia, carved into the slopes of the Erusheti Mountains in the 12th century during the reign of Queen Tamar. Originally built as a fortress and later expanded into a monastery, it once housed up to 6,000 monks and included over 600 rooms, churches, tunnels, and even a pharmacy. The centerpiece is the **Church of the Dormition**, decorated with remarkable frescoes that have survived for centuries. Perched above the Mtkvari River valley, Vardzia is both a masterpiece of medieval engineering and a symbol of Georgia’s Golden Age.

Rabati Castle

**Rabati Fortress**, located in Akhaltsikhe, is a medieval castle complex with a history dating back to the 9th century. Rebuilt and expanded over the centuries, it reflects a blend of Georgian, Ottoman, and Persian influences. Inside its walls, visitors can explore towers, churches, a mosque, gardens, and a museum showcasing regional history. Beautifully restored, Rabati today is both a cultural landmark and a lively attraction, offering panoramic views of the town and surrounding valleys.
