Union House Flag
Union House in Dubai is known for its historical significance, particularly as the site where the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was officially founded in 1971. The flag that flew over Union House during that momentous occasion is a symbol of unity and the birth of the nation. The UAE flag is a tricolor consisting of green, white, and black horizontal bands, with a vertical band of red on the hoist side. The colors hold significance: green represents fertility, white symbolizes neutrality and peace, black stands for the oil wealth of the country, and red signifies bravery and strength. The flag atop Union House serves as a reminder of the unity and pride associated with the formation of the United Arab Emirates.
Palm Islands
Palm Jumeirah, an architectural marvel in Dubai, is an artificial palm-shaped island that graces the coastline. This iconic destination boasts luxury resorts, upscale residences, and a collection of world-class entertainment and dining options. Its unique palm tree structure is adorned with an array of opulent hotels and private villas, creating a stunning skyline against the backdrop of the Arabian Gulf. Palm Jumeirah stands as a symbol of Dubai's innovation and ambition, offering a blend of exclusive living, leisure, and breathtaking views of the city and the sea.

Our guide was very knowledgable and willing to answer all our questions. The driver was excellent. I was particularly impressed with how big Palm Island is. Now that i know the city better I can plan more specific activities

No parts of this tour were memorable in a good way. The Palm Islands experience was a 15 minute drive from our hotel down the main road to the mainland. I don't recall visiting the Dubai Heritage Village although we were taken to a shop where we were pressured by the shop assistant and the tour guide into buying art forms which were distasteful to us, and another shop selling spices, chocolates and sweets which we succumbed to but later realised that we had spent far too much for what we got. Once again, the tour guide was working with the shop assistant to increase the sale quantity. We visited the Burj Al Arab for a quick photo stop but we did not enter the building. We did not visit the Zabeel Palace, I don't recall even seeing it. When we were being taken to the spice shop we passed by the Abra station and my wife commented to the tour guide that an Abra ride was included in the tour. He said OK and he stopped and paid for the ride but he had not intended to do this. I don't know what the Gold Souk was but we saw the Dubai creek. We did not visit the Dubai Marina. No admission tickets were purchased other than the Abra ride at my wife's request. The tour guide left us after the spice shop debacle. We were dropped off by the driver at Dubai Mall after a 3 hour tour which was meant to be a 4/4.5 hour tour.

The tour was a good opportunity to see and know Dubai during a quick layover in the city. Arif has good insights about Dubai and knowledgable about the history of the place. Despite the short time frame, the tour covered both old and new Dubai. Both Arif and Saleem were patient and had arrangements to get around with the busy roads of the city. Also, they provided insights of what else to do in my remaining hours in the city. Definitely worth the price of the tour.
