Climb inside Mud Volcano, in an amazing activity near to Cartagena in one of the world's smallest volcanos and enjoy a relaxing soak in the warm mud inside. Some locals say the mineral infused mud has healing properties and skin benefits which make you look and feel younger. After mud immerse with the help of a kind local who will rinse off the mud, it's optional but we recommend it because the mud remains can be uncomfortable. Get a delicious local snack than you can choose: arepa de huevo, empanada or carimañola and a soda. For this experience you'll be accompanied by a bilingual tour guide, that give you a interesting speech about volcano making your experience unforgettable throughout the journey. Massages, photos or mud-cleanse have an additional price around $2 USD. All native or local people make a living from MUD VOLCANO. We invite you for be part of the growth of a community and support a sustainable tourism.

Each traveler is allowed a maximum of (1) suitcase or carry-on bag. Do NOT allowed oversized or excessive luggage.
Valuables Security: Upon arrival at the volcano, please keep your valuables secure. We make the vehicle we travel in available as a safe space where all guests can leave their belongings. The vehicle will serve as your secure location.
Tipping and Local Community: The native community of this village relies solely on the commercial activity of the volcano. It is common for local residents to offer assistance with items you carry and subsequently ask for a tip. Tipping should be voluntary and at your discretion. To simplify the process and avoid solicitations, we highly recommend ascending the volcano without any personal items—just go in the clothes you intend to enter the mud with.
Massage and Exfoliation: Once inside the volcano, there are local individuals who offer massages. Please make it very clear if you do or do not want this massage and exfoliation service.
Cleaning Service: When exiting the volcano, a group of local women will offer to clean the mud off your body in a natural lake. If you do not wish to use this service, you are also welcome to clean yourself on your own.
Extra Costs: Please note that any assistance you receive, regardless of whether it is offered by the guide or not, will incur an extra cost.

5.00We had an amazing experience on the Half-Day Tour to Totumo Mud Volcano from Cartagena! Our guide, Jose Mieles, was fantastic — friendly, organized, and made the entire trip smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. The mud bath itself was such a unique and fun experience. Floating effortlessly in the warm mud while getting a relaxing massage was unforgettable. The workers at the volcano were wonderful — they help hold your items, take pictures for you, give massages, and assist you when it’s time to rinse off in the lake. Make sure to bring cash in COP for tips, as the workers rely on them and truly deserve it for all the help they provide. When we went down to the lake to wash off, the ladies there were incredibly kind and helpful. I unfortunately lost my gold hoop earring in the process, and they genuinely tried to help me look for it. Even though we didn’t find it, they were so sweet and patient. I would definitely recommend not wearing any jewelry to avoid losing anything in the mud. Overall, such a fun and memorable experience. Highly recommend this tour — and if you get Jose as your guide, you’re in great hands!

4.00Bathing in the mud vulcano was the highlight of my wife's Colombia vacation. The experience was well-planned, and our Backpackers International guide was excellent. I was important that there were no more than 10 individuals in the mud at one time given the size of the enclosure, and as we were 8 on this excursion, we were very comfortable together in the space available.

2.00The experience in the mud was super cool! However, the bus ride to and from the volcano was ridiculous. First, the bus showed up late at the Monument of Pegasuses, and then we proceeded to spend 45 minutes just picking other groups up. By the time we actually got to the site, we had spent nearly 2 hours on the bus, which was packed, hot, and with several broken seats. Miserable. And then we got to do it all on the way back. Considering that this tour was more expensive than others and advertised a comfortable, air-conditioned jaunt of 45-60mins, I’d say we got ripped off. The tour guide, Frankly(?) was fine but nothing special. The “snack” was definitely nothing to write home about either. To be honest, if I were to do It again, I’d go with a cheaper service or just show up at the site on my own.

3.006.5/10 experience. The actual mud experience itself was enjoyable for me like actually being in the mud . The mud was warm and floating was cool. But otherwise it was very unpleasant . The bus ride to the volcano was about 1 hour 15 min and the actual bus/vehicle itself was not up to standard. The bus is really old with broken seats and an air condition that barely works . Going down the stairs after the mud bath to soak off in the river is very dangerous and unsafe as walking down barefoot with no shoes , the steps are slippery and you are stepping on rocks . The locals there were very aggressive and persistent with asking for tips for things that we had not asked them to do . For example upon reaching the top of the mud volcano we were told that we couldn’t bring our shoes so the locals grabbed our shoes but then demanded a tip later on for carrying shoes as if we had a choice we did not . Then they kept following the tourist asking for tips for every 5 minutes and it’s very off putting . Everyone was ok with giving tips because we understood the assignment and with acts of service a tip is generous but it’s not mandatory esp for things we did not ask for . Overall unpleasant . But the best thing to do is the private mud tour with less ppl in at the same time

1.00The tour operator cancelled at very short notice, allegedly because the minimum number of participants was not met after another cancellation. I find this hard to believe, as cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. This is now the third of three tours on my Colombia trip that didn't go as planned. How are you supposed to plan a trip when the organizers take it upon themselves to change everything at short notice, just as they please? All in all, very disappointing.

5.00The Half-Day Tour to Totumo Mud Volcano from Cartagena was absolutely amazing from start to finish! The mud volcano itself is such a unique and fun experience — relaxing, a little surreal, and something I’ll never forget. What truly made this tour exceptional were our guides, Franklin and Eduardo. They were professional, friendly, and incredibly attentive the entire time. I accidentally forgot to get cash from the ATM, and without hesitation, they loaned me money so I could tip the local workers. That level of kindness and care went above and beyond what I would ever expect. It really showed how much they care about their guests and the local community. I highly recommend this tour and if you’re lucky enough to have Franklin and Eduardo as your guides, you’re in great hands!
